I Cant Fill Up My Tank

2004 hd 6l, 4 door 4x4.

 

When i go to fill up my gas tank, it takes 10 minutes, the fuel nozzle keeps clicking just like when the tank is full.

 

I can only fill up a little at a time,

 

i also have the check engine light come on, when i look up the code i get '' evap system''.

 

 

I am thinking that the vent is clogged.

 

I have had this truck since new, it only started a few weeks ago,

 

Also, i fuel the truck at various stations, so a defective gas pump is not problem source

 

Anyone have ideas

sounds like the vent is clogged to me. Have you tried pulling the nozzle out atleast half way in an effort to try and help. Not to a point where your spilling gas of course.

Mine can do the same thing with many pumps if I don't pull it out a ways. I have had since new and always been that way.

I should have mentionned that i tried pulling it out half way and every other way i could try, always same result, pump keeps clicking

Looks like you pointed me what i am/was doing wrong.

 

i am the type that hates to fill-up, so when i do fill up i make sure i get gas all the way up to the top ( been doing this since truck is new ).

 

I guess my charcoal canister is soaked from gas, is there something i can do, will it dry up....or do i need to repalce parts.

I have the same problem but I went to a different gas station and it didnt do it once. Now I am going to try another fuel station and see what it does. So for now Im not going to return to that station but one down the street and see what happens. It could be the pumps, try a different one and see what it does. Some are so sensitive to a lil back pressure.

I said that CAN happen, it doesn't mean it will. The point of that part is to tell people why it is bad to top off. There are many reasons for restrictions the most common being the vent valve. I wouldn't go throwing a canister in it unless you know for sure that is the restriction. Somewhere in that post I said what you can do to figure out where the restriction is by disconnecting things and trying to put fuel in.
