Gutting Out My Cat

I have been working on busting out the Catalytic converter on my truck I finally go in a position to see down the pipe and it appears that there is a metal blockade the covers most of the area I'm trying to bust out. what do you guys do to get around that thing because I cant seem to do it.

Just weld a pipe in place of the cat. Or you can go buy a resonator...if you want it to have a lower less raspy tone.

Easiest way is to cut the cat off the truck and jam some rebar or something similar down in the cat to bust the shit out of there.

all I do is cut the cats off completly, and late a hammer and a long bar and beat the insides out till you can see light through, takes a min, than I weld them back into place, well I have my exhaust guy do it, but I'm just lucky enough to have a friend that works at an exhaust shop, makes getting it fixed eaiser.

yeah i gutted my cats... i put them on a vice and got a 1 1/2 inch drill bit and drilled a hole in the center of the honeycombed piece, then got a chizel and bashed all the other crap out... Sounds alot better now but it gets shit for gas mileage, the check engine lights sometimes comes on and you can really smell the gas fumes from the tail pipe.

gutted em in the blazer cuz the cat was failing. sounded way more beastly with the flows.

a lot of places do emissions testing nowadays and you should be careful.. i know texas is adding a bunch of cities to the list.

You can bet everyone will have to emission testing before long. They'll probably even test each person's bodily emissions at the same time.

You can get o2 sims or a tune that will take care of the CEL.

well I don't know if its the tune, but I busted mine out, and I don't have a problem with the light comming on, just my abs and brake light, but thats from the gears and tires, need to retune again, EFI live time

Yeah you can get simulators but they are pricey. My check engine light only comes on after i do some brake torques lol

i wouldn't touch it unless you are willing to deal with the check engine light, know that it's gonna make your exhaust much louder (not always in a good way.. and especially in the cab), and it will definitely fail an emissions test if you need one for state inspection... also someone told me it is illegal to do and i was always wary of getting pulled over and turned my blazer off when i got pulled over.

also, it is bad for the environment.

as far as metal in front of the cat material? i have never heard of anything like that.. what you might want to do is just get a resonator or something but most exhaust shops aren't going to take your cat off for you or work with you on gutting it because it's illegal.

if it is working fine, just leave it.

"its not illegal, its frowned upon, like masterbating on an airplane" ha ha ha from the great movie The Hang Over. It probably is illegal in some states but i know up here in good old saskatchewan, its not a very big deal.

Remember, its not illegal until you get caught ;)

It is illegal in more than a few states. Modifying or removing the cats is a no, no. Of course unless you get caught, it's no big deal. Just ask one muffler/mechanic shop here in town. He no longer has a business and owes $$$ to laywers and the Fed. Gov.
