Gmt800 Rear Brake Issues

Hi all I been havin a problem as of late to the point where im ready to get rid of this thing already!!

Anyways I bought my truck 2 months ago a few weeks after getting it I started getting a bad squeal from the rear brakes(drum type),the squel got accompanied by grabbing and dragging shortly afterwards.I finally took it in to the dealer where they told me I needed a right rear e-brake cable and brake service so I agreed to have it done.

Pick up the truck and two days later same thing so back to the dealer I go where they tell me the front e-brake cable is gone and its a complete assy with the pedal and release handle which mean big $$$,again I let them do it as

I need my brake fixed properly.Yesterday I go pick my truck up and everything felt fine,this morning when I went to work same thing again!! After work I head over back to the shop where at this point I have the service advisor and the service manger looking over this piece of wood,they took the brake temp and it was at 300 degrees!!

Drum brake are never suposto get that hot!! Now they are suggesting a brake booster or master cylinder.

I should mention the rear shoes were changed by the previous owner and I was told they are aftermarket shoes which could also cause alot of problems themselves,squeling yes but grabbing and dragging Im not so sure.

 

So as I type this the truck is sitting in the shop agian,man it feels

its been there more then I been drivng it. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions that I could bring up to the dealer.

Just a quick update.Dealer replaced my shoes with OEM units and machined the drums free of charge since they mis- diagnosed the problem the first few times I had the truck in there and im glad to say the problem is gone. I was looking at the aftermarket shoes that were on the truck compared to the OEM units and you could tell they were much more different and made much more poorly.The return springs and the parking brake arms were weaker and longer causing the brakes to not fully release. This is why I have always tried to stay away from aftermarket parts,esp brake and suspension components.

Certain parts simply must be oem. Chevy trucks have used a different friction material that is hard to find aftermarket. This issue goes back to the 1970s for the rear drum brakes.
