Rhino Ramps

Used with 2002 Silverado 1500 EXT 2WD SWB

I'll give you the history as to why I bought I liked the "plastic" ramps.

I thought I would start using ramps instead of jacking up one side of the truck for oil changes and the cursory inspection of the underside.  First some of you are saying there's plenty of room under there ... well not with a 2WD and my fat butt on a creeper.  The ramps I tried were the nice looking (appeared) to be sturdy steel ramps for $59.00.  What a joke, first they slide all over when trying to drive up them.  I fixed the sliding by slitting 3/8" fuel line and placed in on the edges in contact with the concrete.  The truck was up, I got out to make sure everything was centered.  One of the cross braces was buckled.  It ain't no TopKick or Kodiak I'm driving on these supposedly by the pair 28,000 lbs capacity should take a TopKick or Kodiak.  I of course took them back.  I had originally passed up for even looking at the Rhino Ramps because they were made from "plastic".  Well I gave them a first look and a second.  I put them on their sides and stood on the edges, no deflections were noticed.  The construction is almost 1/4" for the shell and about 1/8" for the cross sections about 1.5" square formed all the way to the start of the ramp.  On the bottom at the start of the ramp is a square rubber foot.  My first try with these ramps, I treated them just like the steel ones and as ones I have used in the past.  Lined the truck straight with the steering straight.  Jammed the edge of the ramps between the tires and concrete.  Lined up the ramps.  I drove up them the first time without the ramps sliding.  I noticed no squatting or buckling on the ramps.  I used them for a little over an hour all the while grabbing the truck's frame braces to scoot me back and forth, there was absolutely no noise from the ramps like in the past I've experienced the occasional creaking doing such manuevors.  I inspected them after I rolled the truck off.  There was no indent on the platform where the tire was.  All the sides were straight as wells as all the crossmembers.  They are very light weight and have cut outs for easy hand carry.  If the new PROTEC bed is made from similar grade of "plastic", then I'm sold on '...today's plastics...' and would definitely buy my next truck with a PROTEC bed.  As well as start looking at other items and not just ignore them anymore.

For $29.99 + tax I rate these a definite 10 of 10.  The ramps are rated 6000lbs each with 12000lbs rating for the pair and of course is safety recommended to use the pair only.  I got them at Wally's-Megalo Mart.  I have seen them at Pep Boy's.

Me too.  I almost got a set of the metal ones but guess I will look more closely at the Rhino Ramps.

Thanks,

I agree. These are really tough ramps! I have a set that i use with the corvette. I have yet to use it with the truck, because, LOL, the truck is so high anyway...

I got a set this weekend.  I think they will really help with the oil drain path.  Definately don't want to get it in the skid plate.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
