Clockspring Identification

Hey all, I'm new to the registered side of this forum, since I've researched a lot on my truck, so I fnally registered! Yeah, this is gonna be another one of those "steering wheel/dic controls" thread. :loser: Sorry about that, but I need some help on a clockspring I want to buy to make this all work. The one I need for my 2003 Sierra is apparently the 26101829, but the one that is the best deal is one that doesn't appear in any oem gm parts site, # 26102329. I'd like to know if this is virtually the same part, so if anyone has any info on this, it'd be great. Thanks.

I included some images too, just in case...

Noone! Really, 50 views and no replies, wow, must be an obscure part...my guess was that it is the same or a similar part, but that it is for another country, but I kinda find that unlikely...so since I'm not willing to bet on it, I'm not buying it unless I get confirmation it's the steering wheel controls clockspring...On another note, I checked with some techs at my nearby dealer about pricing for programming...so one gave me all this BS about my radio dying if he programmed the truck and the radio was incompatible with the controls and about needing to program the radio too, and on top of that that it would be $200 for just the programming!! Apparently an incompetent fool. Needless to say I wasn't buying...but I found another one who was competent and was closer to what the truth about programming the controls is, and also a much better price, $140 less. So, it seems all I do need is the clockspring since I already bought the steering wheel...I guess since noone knows if this clockspring is compatible, off to the junkyard... :(

You are right, The part # is not recognized by GM. 26101829 is the one you need.

Maybe MS3DALE can shed some light on this. He is a GM parts manager.

You know its only a good deal if it will work...

Ok I have a 26101829 in my hands. The number on it is 26090779 N7Q0047, so I am not sure about the number on yours means a whole lot. They look a whole lot alike.

Well, best deal in my case means the only one I found on eBay (and basically google as well) that someone is selling..of course other than gmpartsdirect.com where it is close to $300...and this one on eBay is $90. I haven't looked at junkyards yet since I called some in my area and it seems not many have junk cars with the part I need. Next step would obviously be in person at some nearby junkyards. I'd like at least some visual certification (even though that's somewhat imprecise) that it actually is the part before I bite the bullet on that one, so the fact you said they look a lot alike helps. dlstewart, maybe you could tell me if all the cables are the same and if there are the same number of connectors on this picture as the one you have, or even post a pic of yours, that'll certainly help out. If MS3DALE could help too, that'd be great, since he knows those parts well.

Wow, you're right, they do look a lot alike...seems to me exactly the same. I guess I'll try some local junkyards first, but if it comes to buying this one, it seems to be a viable option. Thanks dlstewart for your help. If anyone else cares to chime in if it works or not, that'd be great though...makes it that much more of a viable option if there is some confirmation of an actual install.

Alright guys, seems like the clockspring did work and it also seems to be equivalent to the 26101829 clockspring for 03-06 Sierra/Silverado trucks for DIC and Radio controls. It took a while to get programmed, but I finally got it done, and everything works as it should and as far as I can see. The tech I talked to apparently hadn't done the UK3 code addition to any 03-06 Sierra/Silverado since I had to give him this info I took from the big topic floating around here about DIC installation, I think it was posted by MS3DALE, but I can't quite remember who it was exactly:

Necessary to reflash IPC and BCM

Truck was not equipped with RPO code (UK3) which is redundant radio controls, so the body controller will not recognize or "turn on" the radio controls. In addition the instrument cluster will not recognize or turn on the DIC functionality. Therefore, dealer will have to call the Techline Support center. This is not the same as TAC. Techline is for software and programming. They need to explain what they are doing and request 2 VCI numbers (to add to the VIN). A VCI number is a new calibration code which will allow your controllers to turn on the radio and DIC controls. They need to get a code for the IPC and one for the TBC (BCM). They will then request info from the vehicle with their Tech 2 handheld device. They then take the Tech 2 to their PC loaded with TIS2000 and perform a SPS programming function using the VCI numbers. This will load the calibration into the Tech 2. They then take the Tech 2 back to the vehicle and load the new calibration into the vehicle. They will need to go through this process twice, once for the IPC and again for the TBC (BCM) using the new VCI numbers.

I bolded some important parts, but that's what I gave the tech, and that's what helped him out to get everything working.

So if anyone is looking at that clockspring on ebay with number 26102329 and wondering if it works for an 03-06 Sierra or Silverado, well, you're in luck, that is possibly the cheapest new clockspring you can find out there for these trucks. Thanks to dlsewart for helping me identify if the clockspring was identical to the one I needed, that made me decide much quicker about buying it.

Yeper... I plan to do this install and do a full writeup as I just got my clockspring from Travis. Should be done in the next several days.
