Truck Sat - Trying To Get Running

Pulled out my 95 Silverado (305) out I bought a while ago and am trying to get it running. When I bought it, it ran. But I put it in storage and haven't touched it in 6 or so years. Put a whole new fuel tank in, new fuel pump, and a new fuel filter in it. I blew the lines out from the pump to the filter. If I pour gas in the throttle body the truck will run till it burns that gas and then quits. It won't fire if I just try to start it, just keeps cranking. I took the line off by the fuel filter and gas pours out. I also took the line off at the top of the motor and gas pours out too so it getting gas that far. What else should I look for/into? Thanks.

the injectors are probably full of crap...your gonna need new ones...or at least used ones.

That's what a buddy said who just came over and look at it. But he said he wouldn't think they would all be, that it would just run rough... Called and got a price of $76 each. Is there 8?

Nothing else to check before I purchase them?

Nothing else to check before I purchase them? Are they just under the plastic intake cap thing?

Yeah...and there's only 2 of them...not like new trucks that have 8

You could try pulling them out and letting them soak in carb cleaner. you can buy the rebuild kits for them too...its just the plastic end cap and a couple of o rings though...you really cant do anything with the inside of them. You could probably get a whole Throttle body from a wrecker for 70 bucks. And this is probably what I would do. Any TB will fit from a 305 or 350...and the injectors will fit from any TBI engine...the 454 ones just flow a little more fuel.

Thank you for taking the time to help man.

I guess its a 1996 if that makes a difference, had it to long I forgot.

There's only two? As when I called for a 1995 they game me a price of $76 each. But when I called some places today for a 1996 I got from like $50-70 each. And 2 places said its like a "spider" on top that goes to all the injectors and you have to buy that and its likes $550.

Also how do the injectors fire? Some people told me its electrical others said its pressure.

Ok....your gonna need to show me a picture of the engine...or wait....which one does it look like...

OR

The top one has 2 injectors in the Throttle body, almost like a carburetor, but the fuel sprays in from the top.

The bottom pic has 8 injectors....1 per cylinder...its also a 350...not a 305.

Injectors work by an electric signal telling them when to open, than they spray fuel either in a TB...(Throttle Body Injected), at the intake valve (Multi Port/Point Fuel Injection, Sequential Injection...etc) or now directly into the combustion chamber (Direct injection). That's the quick and dirty.

Take a pic of your engine if you can...that will allow me to give you further advice, without getting you confused.

Thanks for all your help. I took it apart yesterday, wasn't that bad. Its a "spider" injector thing. Not mine, but what it looks likes...

I am trying to find out what part I need to order. It seems the stock spider injector is a common problem in the 1996+ trucks. From what I gather I need part #93441235. GM wants like $608ish for it and GMPartsdirect.com wants about $400 for it.

Someone showed me this link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-98-99-00...=item51890dd166 and the part is $300.

But when I look the one up in the ebay auction with part number 89060440 GM states just, "INJR KIT", but when I look up part number 93441235 which I see everyone says I need, GM states it is "INJECTOR

Central sequential multi-port fuel injector

Includes wires going to the injectors as well as the following items:

Retainer

Stud

Injectors

Meter

Regulator

Seal"

Thanks, I actually was just on rock auto and found the 89060440. The ebay one is a deplhi to and about $25 cheaper. Any reason you would get one over the other?

Thanks for all your help.

Delphi is cheaper....thats about all....Delphi makes the AC Delco one I would almost bet on it.

I totally forgot about the SPFI engine in the beginning....thats why I thought it had 2 injectors.

Before you spend the money, you could try spraying some carburetor cleaner down the intake with the throttle open. It should run off of that or atleast sputter. That would tell you if you have the proper spark and some compression, and that fuel is indeed what you are lacking. I've driven the vortec trucks into the shop when the fuel pumps go out, one guy behind the wheel, and one sitting under the hood sparying a quick squirt once a second or so. I say carb cleaner because it is less volital than either. Still got to be carefull, they can back fire and blow flames out the throttle body!

We did that before and after we got the new fuel pump in. Ran till it ran out of the gas we poured down the TB. I am going to order the spider injector and go from there. Someone already has replaced one of the injectors at one time so I think it probably needs a new one anyways.

Have you done an actual fuel pressure test at the rail? Maybe the new pump is weak? It should have about 60 psi, key on engine off. You first said it was a 95, you didn't get a pump for a 95 did you? Cause 95 is throttle body injection and only 9-15 psi, where a 96 is Central or Sequential injection which is around 60??? Just a thought if the pump is right I'd say plugged injectors is right.

I didn't do an actual test, but fuel was pouring out of the pipes on top of the motor when we disconnected them. Yeah I thought it was a 1995 at first, had it so long I forgot. Looked at the title and its a 1996.
