Tranny Woes!

I have a 1990 GMC Sierra 2500 4X4.

I had to use 4X4 high to get moving this morning due to ice in my driveway.

I switched back to 2 WD but something seemed a little off. After a few miles of driving I slowed for an intersection and it lurched out of gear. It felt like the transfer case was trying to engage and disengage.

I went into 4WD then back to 2WD it would move, but made a loud whine while moving forward and it seemed to really be high rpms involved.

Managed to go about 200 yards to get off the street and park.

If I put it in reverse - no go - it actually showed the mph on speedo go up as if i was driving.

OK - anyone have clue? I can't afford to put money in this old girl anymore, just wondering how severe it may be.. I have to check fluid level yet, as I was on my way to doctors office. I'm sitting here trying to figure it out.

Thanks for any help..

no reverse is the tall tail sign the old girl is dead...but check the fluid level anyway hell maybe its just too low to turn the converter

If your getting a speed readout on the gauge, than you have something broken in the T-case, or your sun gear is toast..

If you can get it to a trans shop...let them take a look at it...if its too expensive...than say screw it.
