Gauge Cluster

I'm sure there has been a topic on this before for anybody who owns an 03-07 Chevrolet but I bought my truck back in August and the gauge cluster worked fine but now the only gauge that really works is my rpm gauge and most of the time the gas gauge. What can I do to fix it because I don't want to pay $400 for the dealer to fix it and it is past the 75,000 mile mark for the recall. Which I thought if it was a recall it shouldn't matter how many miles is on the truck they should fix it. If anybody could help me it would be appreciated.

Replacing the cluster is the fix. You could pick up one from a boneyard and try it if you don't want to go the dealer route.

Well it wasn't really a recall, but you can replace yours for under $260 with mileage re-programmed off ebay. Most places even offer free shipping too.

10 minute swap too.

It's plug and play. The only thing you have to worry about is the mileage and hour meter. If you bought a used cluster, then you'd need to send it to a place that does repairs and programming like Techni-car. There's two places, 1 in Tampa, the other in Cleveland.

They are the people that GM sends there warranty work to for cluster repairs.

I hope I'm singing on the same page here; let me know if I'm not. A couple years ago the speedometer on my '05 Suburban quit working and it was diagnosed as a bad "step-motor". It cost something like $500 to fix. It turns out that that there was a class-action lawsuit settlement for that problem and we received full reimbursement for parts and labor.

The rest of the gauges worked fine, so that's why I'm not sure if I'm addressing the same problem. Just figured I'd let you know in case it helps you or someone else out there.

It was a bulleten, and I think it was increased to 94,000. I had mine done a few weeks ago all free. If not you can do the stepper mtrs yourself.

Replace the stepper motors yourself. You can get them off ebay for about $10 each. If you can solder at all it's an easy job. There is a thread here somewhere with step by step instructions with pictures. I did this with mine after being refused covered replacement from GM. (bitches)

Bring it to the dealer, GM will honor the warranty over 75,000, only catch is if it is over 75,000 miles you will have to pay for the labor only. But make sure when you go to the dealer you tell them that there is a noise coming from the dash, they will order you a new one and replace it no questions asked because there is a recall. I got mine replaced last summer and the tech told me that GM just extended the warranty if you have over 75,000 and that GM would charge you for the labor only.

Well I just got off the phone with 3 local Chevy dealerships and they told me that it would cost anywhere from $375 to $450 to fix it. The pay only labor part was only if it has less than 80,000 miles. But the way I see it is Chevy was being cheap and put these crappy motors on here and they can't pay for their screw up. I was thinking about just buying the motors and doing it myself.

After a long drawn out battle with the dealer, regional rep, and corporate consumer affairs the final decision was that they would pay half which meant I would only have to pay $450 to fix admittedly bad parts that were installed in my truck.

I kindly told them to shove it and fixed it myself for $10 and about an hour of my time.

You can buy a brand new one for less than that and pick up the transmission gauge
