Leveling Kit - Questions

Recommended Posts

Posted

I bought my first 'new' truck back in 2008 - An '08 Silverado LS Crew Cab. I have the stock tires (245/70/17) and have been wondering what I need to do to make the tires fill up more of the wheel wells. (I like the rims and so have been looking around to find the biggest tire I can install)

During my search for tires, I found "leveling kits" via Google and wanted to find out more about them and what they do.

I'm sorry it is such a basic question, but I don't know much about doing a mod to a full-size pickup. Can you tell me 'why' I would want to put a leveling kit on my 2x4 ? What does it do for you and how does it affect the ride?

I've looked at a lot of the pictures on the site and think the 2" leveling kits make the trucks look really good.

Thanks for helping me understand.

I love my ride, I installed and pair of readylift 2.25" leveling kit myself. there was no change to ride but you sit higher, more ground clearance and more sdpace for bigger tires.

i had the alignment check and it was right on.

Thanks for the reply. I like the idea of sitting higher....I could never really understand why the stock truck, as cool as it is, pitches down in the front. I know that a majority of the weight is up front, but if it looks so much better to level it out, why not do that by default?

I'm looking forward to adding that kit (hopefully I can do it myself). I guess there are a bunch of different brands - I'm assuming 'readylift' is one of them. I'll check it out.

Any idea if doing the lift screws the dealer's warranty?

No, the lift will not void your factory warranty, Th edealer will offer lifts thru various companies or do it themselves and will give you a warranty on thier work.

You are right there a several diffierent brands of Leveling kits, I did my reasearch and got a great deal on mine, my wife bought them. They are billet aluminum and solid, there are other like CCM, but might bend with impact.

Great suggestion - I checked out Readylift's website and found just what I need for my truck. Funny thing is, their company is about 15 minutes from my house! I'll have to take a ride over there some day soon.

I watched the video on how to do the install...doesn't look too complicated. I don't have pneumatic tools, so I'll make sure I can do it manually before I take it on myself....will probably need to buy a torque wrench.

Again - thanks for your reply..it was really helpful.
