jerenzo Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 First time posting. I've read a few postings about what parts to get for remote keyless entry for a 2008 Silverado. I went to an alarm store to price keyless entry. I don't need or really want remote start or an alarm. The truck came with electric locks, but not keyless entry. When I go to the alarm stores, they want to sell some type of module for an additional $100. But, they don't look at the truck at all... After reading online here, I get the feeling my truck migh yet be equipped with the "module." What module are they talking about? Is it necessary? How do I determine if it is necessary? If it is necessary, how hard is it to do myself or does the "programming" need to be done by someone who knows what they're doing? Thanks
700 sportsman Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Well, the module they are talking about is a bypass module for the security system. You won't be able to do any of the programming yourself, I would reccomend checking out this thread: http://www.truckmodcentral.com/forums/show...4295&page=3 It has all the info you need, also if you have any questions feel free to PM Scotty, he is very knowledgeable and will help you out
ruggedlife Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 an aftermarket alarm shop will sell you a module that will interface with your truck allowing it to lock and unlock your doors, as far as what you have factory id have no idea you'd have to research some RPO codes and check with the dealer whether or not you can just add a remote, or if you have to add a few pieces
Smcinc-Ryan Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 In your glove box there is "3 digit" codes, you will need to find the correct one for Keyless entry, also your truck might have come equipped with the modules to accept the keyless entry. Just you will need to purchase the other modules and have the dealer or someone that has newer software of a Tech 2, they can do that. Hope that helps
