Weird High Beam Problem

Recommended Posts

I have an 08 Sierra Denali. About six months ago, I converted all my lights to HID. I am using the supplied wiring harnesses for the three sets of lights. Up until a week ago, they worked fine. The other day I noticed that my high beams would not turn on. Note: this is with the headlights in “Auto”. I always use auto.

I figured that the relay or fuse was blown and just checked them. They are fine.

Here’s where it gets weird. If I put the headlight switch in manual, I can activate my high beams. When in Auto, they will not come on and the high beam dash indicator does not illuminate either. If I pull the high beam / turn signal level back to flash the high beams, they will come on regardless if the switch is in auto or manual.

I have checked all headlamp fuses and they are good.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I’m hesitant to take it to the dealer to diagnose; as they’re default answer will surely be that the HID kits are the problem.

Also, I have a Black Berry tune. I don’t think that could be part of the problem, but as integrated as the ECM is with everything in this truck, its worth mentioning.

I don't think that's it because the low beams come on when it's dark out. Or at least I think they are...... I better check my tail lights to verify.
