mercenarygod Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 So I want to switch to an electric fan for cooling. I just am confused on how to go about removing the clutch fan, if that is the right term? Well any knowledge on this will greatly help me. I've tried reaserching this but the results have been vague.
mercenarygod Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 Maybe I'm being to vague. Do I just unbolt the mechanical fan blade and then slip in the electrical fan? It just seems to easy. The blade is connected to a pulley and I don't know if I leave the pulley alone or not.

You just put a wrench on the nut, hold the pulley with pressure on the belt and spin the fan off, taking the clutch and everything with it. Its a normal thread nut...not reverse thread. If you can get one....get a fan from a 99-2003 ford Taurus or Mercury sable. They are the highest flowing fans out there, and can be had for super cheap. They flow 3000 CFM of air...something that good aftermarket is gonna cost you an arm and a leg. You may have to make up a bracket for your new electric fan in order to mount it correctly.
mercenarygod Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 Awesome! That should be easy, looks like I will need to go to the junk yard. Much appreciated

Be careful which fans you get too...some are pushers some are pullers.....you want a puller, that is, mounted on the engine side of the rad.
thearborbarber Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 How do you plan to activate the fans? I have seen aftermarket temp sensors with a stand alone control and relay box to power electric fans. I believe is was summit racing is where I saw it.
