Harness Wiring Help

Recommended Posts

While I am fairly mechanically inclined (or so I thought), I can't seem to figure out how to connect my new HU.

I am replacing a 2010 GMC Sierra 2500 radio non bose, w/o Onstar with a Pioneer AVHP3100.

Pioneer came with a harness and I bought the Scosche GM22R adapter harness to make it as easy as possible and not lose all the 'safety' features that GM decided to wire through the radio.

I am basically just connecting the free leads from Pioneer's harness to the free leads on the Scosche harness, both have instructions, but I am still confused. I hooked up all the obvious ones and the ones where both directions matched and I am left with these colors and their descriptions:

On GM22R I have left:

Violet/White - VSS Speed pulse signal

Red/White - Reverse Light Trigger (+12v when in reverse)

Yellow/Black - Parking Brake Trigger (-12v when park brake is on)

Orange/White - Auto illumination

Blue - Powered Antenna

Orange - Illumination

On the Pioneer I have left:

Orange/White - Lighting switch terminal

Violet/White - Of the two lead wires connected to the back lamp, connect the one in which the voltage changes when the gear shift is in the R position. This connection enable the unit to sense whether the car is moving forwards or backwards

Yellow/Black - Mute

Light green - Used to detect the On/Off status of the parking breake. Lead must be connected to the power supply of the parking brake switch.

Here is how I 'think' I would do it.

Pioneer Orange/White to GM22 Orange/White and Orange?

Pioneer Violet/White to GM22 Red/White

Pioneer Yellow/Black cap off?

Pioneer Green to GM22 Yellow/Black and power supply of PB switch

GM22 Blue cap off?

GM22 Violet/White I have no idea.

I am begging for someone with some A/V experience to help me out.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Sorry for the slow response. I haven't been down here lately.

Lets take the wires in question from the GM22SR

Violet/White - VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) - This is used to provide vehicle speed information to head units with built in GPS, just cap it off for your application

Blue - Power Antenna - Used to actuate a power antenna. You don't have one so cap it off.

Yellow/Black - Parking Brake - This will send -12v (Ground) when the parking brake is activated. Connect it to the Light Green wire from your Pioneer

NOTE: Grounding the light green wire from the Pioneer will not allow you to bypass the parking brake. Newer Pioneers need to see a change in voltage on the line to let you watch a video. You can also hook the Light Green wire to one side of a switch and the other side of the switch would go to ground. You will need to flip the switch twice to activate the video playback.

Red/White - Reverse Trigger - Supplies +12v when the vehicle is put into reverse. Typically used to turn on a backup camera. Connect to the Pioneer's Violet/White if you plan to add a camera otherwise cap both off.

Orange - Illumination - Connect this to the Pioneer's Orange/White. NOTE: Meter the Orange wire to verify is sends +12v when the lights are turned on before making the connection. If the wire does not supply +12v cap both off.

Orange/White - Auto Illumination - Cap Off

As for the Yellow/Black mute wire from the Pioneer cap it off. That should cover all the wires you had in question. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me.
