My 2008 silverado is losing about half an inch of coolant from the cold line every 3 to 4 months I know this is not normal. What could be the problem? It only has 14000 miles and I really don't want to take it to the dealer because I don't want them tearing up the truck just to find a leak that might not exist and causing more problems.

You have a leak and it need to be fixed soon. You have a 5 yr 100K powertrain warranty and a 3 yr 36K bumper to bumper if the leak isn't fixed you will be sorry. Take it in and get it fixed.
