All-terrain Tire Weight

I think it would be very beneficial for us to know what the tires weigh prior to purchasing them, especially as the tires get larger than OEM into the 33" and 35" range and above.

 

So, who makes the lightest 33" and 35" tires? who wants to run an 85-95 pound tire? That is nuts! So, somebody has to have some info. I am tired of looking for weights on BFG's, Mickey Thompson, etc. A lot of companies don't even have the weight listed (i.e. BFG)

 

So, let's see some sizes and numbers. I have 18" wheels, but I am sure some people wold like to see what else is out there for their size wheels and their tire options.

I was also looking into this, and saw that tire rack list them but they don't carry nitto or cooper which are two of the main tires I wanted weights on

Simple answer - avoid E-rated tires, and if you have a choice between P and LT, choose P for lighter weight (less ply). Nitto Terra Grapplers are available in 285/70/17 (rounds up to 33") in both P and LT.

Be cautious about skimping on # of ply of your tire to save a little weight. I did that a couple of years ago with my ram. Actually wasnt worried about weight but price. Following the old addage "you get what you pay for", I got a puncture in the main meaty part of the tread from...get this...a damn piece of 2B driveway stone. I don't remember the manufacturer of the tire, (uniroyal maybe) got them from Wally World. 4 ply pieces of garbage. I will never skimp on tires for my GMC!

But I agree, tire rack doesn't have the weight of some of the tires that I want to consider.
