I wouldn't use anything from McGoofy even if you gave it to me.

I am a Belltech fan, but I do have a McGaughys flip kit and assist bags on my 09 and they are fine. The only complaint I have is that the installation instructions are very vague. They maybe give you one pic, the rest are just instructions, they assume you know everything they are talking about, and everything they don't mention. Belltech gives you a step by step, tools needed, pics for each step, and even give the torque specs when you put everything back together.

I have also seen a thread on a automotive forum where the owner/staff of McGaughys were airing out his/their dirty laundry and making threats because people were bringing to light some issues that customers were having. Not good for business IMO.

I bought a complete kit from Friendly Chevrolet in Dallas.. I bought the McGaughey's kit that had the 2" drop spindles, 2" drop springs and 4-6 inch drop rear leaf springs. I also bought the McGaugheys Rear shocks. I installed everything and found that the Rear leafs did not fit correctly in the forward mounts on the truck.. I called McGaughey and was told to put some washers in between the forward mount and the leaf springs and Tighten it down, so I did.

Well after about 5000 miles and about 6 months later I notice that the Rear springs were starting to bend where they mount to the axle and the front mount seems to be moving around a slightly.

I call and talk to someone about my concerns and was told there is nothing they could do about it and I was pretty much on my own.. They would not sell me a flip kit to fix my problem.

The rear shocks they sold me, the diameter of the sleeve at the mounting points did not fit the bolt properly and rattled, once again they would not do anything to correct the problem.

The front 2" drop springs sagged so much on the right side that there was a 1" difference in the distance from the ground to the fender from the left side to the right side. Once again, I called them up and they would not do anything to help me rectify the problems from their inferior parts they sold me.

I removed everything but the spindles and replaced everything with Belltech products and have had no problems what so ever. I have 55,000 miles on my truck and it rides perfectly. I originally lowered it at 2,500 miles.

I would never buy another thing from McGaughey's. Not only is their parts crap there Customer service is terrible.

I am a 37 year old Aircraft Mechanic, I am not some young punk.

You can take what I just said for what it's worth.. I am not typing this to Bash McGaughey, I am typing this to keep someone else from spending their hard earned money on CRAP!

Wow that would leave anyone a bitter taste in their mouth. The only thing that sucks worse than crappy quality/defective parts, is a company who will not make things right.

+1

With that kind of customer service and apparent poor products, I won't be sending them any money. I'll stick with Belltech.

Onedsob,

Just curious what you didn't like about your 2/3 drop? The pics below look good to me. Was it just a personal distaste you had for the look or some sort of hardware issue you ran into with this setup?

As far as a 2/3 or 2/4 drop, I wouldn't do it. As a matter of fact, I did do it the first time, and here are some pictures.

Lowering your truck is a disease. Once you do a 2/4... a 3/5 looks more attractive... then you need a 4/7. Next thing you know you need to bag it and lay the frame on the ground.

I've had several friends go down this road.

Yup. That is why you do it right the first time and be done with it :D

Couldn't have said it better.. I had no problems mechanically, I just really like the way it is now better then the 2/4 All in the way it looks.

Still on the fence of the 2/3 or 2/5 yet, buying the belltech spindles from a member here and ordering the street scene side skirts tomorrow since they stylin has a sale. Rollpan after that.

Ordered the struts, and a 2/4 kit, couple of factors for the rear. Down the road when i have this as a secondary vehicle i can go lower. Also ordered from stylin trucks the street scene ground effects to match my front bumper. Should have everything within a week or two. Thanks again everyone for the help.

Not familiar with lowering a 4wd Chevrolet, but I would think the issue would be some of the components for the 4wd up front would get in the way and/or possibly bind. There was a guy on another gm truck website with a 01 or 02 GM truck who eventually made the truck 2wd just to go lower.

The 3/6 is so sweet perfect amount of rake! I have to put 17" aluminium wheels on for the winter does this create a clearance issue with the tie rods? My options to lower the truck are probably very limited. DoMDrty are those 17 or 18" with the 4/7 kit? You had mentioned 2" spindles "tires will thank you" if I have a clearance problem how about adjustable struts/springs.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers NOAH.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
