8.1 Swap

I have been throwing around the idea of swapping my 8.1 with a d-max. Is it possible? Any ideas on what it would cost? I have an 01 2500HD with a 6 speed manual behind it. The only thing I don't like about the 8.1 is the mileage I get. Other then that it is a great motor.

I have an 8.1 in my shed that im looking to put inan older 2500 4x4, and it is possible with some stand alone ecm/fuel managment, but as far as the diesel goes i think guys are gonna tell you to just buy a truck with a diesel in it. doesthe d-max even bolt up to a 4l80e or 6l80e, thought it wasjust duramax... although my 8.1 yukon has a 4l85e

Your better off buying a truck with the Dmax in it. There is a lot to do on a diesel conversion (fuel tank replacement, transmission replacement, ECM, exhaust system, , wiring harnesses, and find a solid donor motor).

You are still better off with the 8.1...period.

ya +1 just trade urs in for a duramax man, their is a TON of work involved in that swap. it would cost so much money man

Since we're talkin' high dollar swap projects, I'd love to see what a six speed manual in my 8.1L Suburban would be like! Bye-bye center console.
