Will 16.5" Wheels Fit Nnbs

Just curious if anyone has experience with this. I'm pretty sure 16s rub on the calipers...and that 17s are the min size from the factory

 

SO if you were to run them, would you need to grind down the calipers to get them to fit? Or is the extra .5" enough to clear???

I would not try to modify the calipers ... just stick to 17 inch or larger..

grinding calipers isnt tough... a buddy of mine had a 3/4T truck and got a great deal on some 15" wheels (strangely enough 8 lug) so we spent an afternoon with the angle grinder trying to clearance the front calipers... Worked, but it was a tight fit though...

1) whats a nnbs? do you mean gmt900? ;)

 

2) i dont think they'd fit without grinding the calipers

 

3) grinding calipers is a bad idea... may be ok for a trail rig... but dont do that to a nice new truck! especially one thats driven on the street

 

4) i hate 16.5" wheels in general. they're more dangerous and suck for airing down offroad (harder to keep the bead seated at low psi)... go with 17s

I agree with you 100% that its not such a good idea on a new"er" truck...and I really dont like the beads on the 16.5" tires either (terrible tendency to unseat when aired down, the 2nd reason my buddy got the 15s on his 3/4T truck)

 

Just curious, thats all... Was checking out Pirate4x4 forums and there's a MIL Surplus guy with lots of 37x12.5 Wrangler MT (the OLD lug style which looked bad a$$ IMO) but of course they're only for 16.5 wheels.

 

Guess its time to bust out the welder and start making a tube chassis trail rig
