02 Tahoe Front Heater Fix

Recommended Posts

I have been working on my wifes 02 tahoe trying to fix the front heater. It was only blowing cold air, the back heater worked fine.

I changed the thermostat , I flushed the sytem 2 or 3 times, I even changed the control unit (sent that one back).

I am sure that all of this didn't hurt the truck and it probably needed to be done anyway as preventative maintenance.

After all this, it turned out to be the Heater Blend Door Actuator DORMAN Part # 604101 {OE Solutions #52474810} @ Rock auto parts .com for $37.79.

The location on the truck is so easy, just remove the 2 screws that hold the cover in place under the glove box.

Now the part (Heater Blend Door Actuator ) is exposed almost behind the center console, there is only 2 screws holding it in place also.

On the one that is hardest to reach (closest to the center of the truck) make sure the handle of your ratchet is pointing at the gas pedal.

Once you have removed this unit, you can turn the door shut with your fingers to see if replacing this part will fix your problem.

Good luck, hope this helps

Good info to know. I don't have the blend door problem, but my duct selector clicks if I put it all the way to the left (counter clockwise) to select the dash vents. If I move it up 1 click it stops. It works fine on all the other selections. I'm sure it's just a bad or misadjusted actuator but not sure how to get to that one.
