Pissed About 2009 Exhaust

i just bought an exhaust for my 09 silverado 4.8

dynomax kit # 39468

 

it looks right but the front pipe wont fit behind the cat!!

 

it says the kit is for 2007 too 2009 did they change it in 2009?

Yup, they changed the connection on the exhaust in 09...I put on the magnaflow, they list the two different part numbers...07-08 and 09+

 

I looked on dynomax site, they only show the one you got for 07-09, which is wrong...I'd call them and give them a chance to make it right...back when I was shopping, I don't think they had one for 09+, but that was last fall...

agreed, for whatever reason the 09's are different than the 07 & 08's

ya i work at a auto-parts store and got a good deal on the kit $320. the rep talked the system up quite a bit. i thought for the price i cant go wrong.

 

guess what you can if it doesn't fit.

 

im guessing the pipe right after the connector right after the cat is a 3"

 

if so i will just buy a 3" stainless band clamp and cut off the flange on the kits intermediate pipe?? it should work right?

It probably won't seal properly. Why not take it to a muffler shop and have them expand the pipe to fit over the existing pipe. With their pipe expander it will be a 2 minute job.

Noticed that Gibson has modified their cat-backs with an included piece of 3" flared pipe that replaces the flanged end that fits the 2007/2008 cat flange. Maybe you could cut off your stock 3" pipe to length that would mate up with the Dynomax muffler, assumong it has a 3" inlet. Then you'd also have the benefit of the flex joint to absorb some of the vibration in the exhaust.

well guys i got a local shop to install it for me he charged me $50 to install it.

 

im happy now i love the sound of it. its perfect. i like it more then my friends magnaflow set up

Does the 09 have larger pipe past the cat than 07-08? If so from like 2 1/2" to 3" or is it just some sort of expansion piece that is different on the cat or an odd size pipe all the way back? I never have looked at the pipe on my 09 but I always thought it was about 2 1/2" like my 2000 was.

well it was a 3" or 2 3/4" pipe. The connector on the exhaust after the cat on the 09 is a v style band clamp. The 07 and 08 have a 2 bolt flange after the cat. I got the pipe cut right after the V band clamp and put a normal band clamp on works good now
