Heat Gauge

Hey, i drive a 2004 Silverado 1500 and every time i punch on the gas my heat gauge goes from normal temp 275 all the way up to 550. I wont even be spinning out or anything i will just be accelerating rapidly and i can see the tack go up fast. Is this just a sensor or am i hurting the truck? it shouldnt go up that fast by just stepping on the gas. Has this happenned to anyone before? is it a problem? and how can i fix it?

If it makes it to 550 i am putting it in the hall of fame...... never seen one get to 550....... Especially make it after getting that high. The rings would be toast......

I think this normally happens when you are low on coolant and the sending unit is exposed to air instead of immersed in coolant. Or, it could just be a bad sending unit.

 

What kind of temp gauge do you have that goes to 550? Also, I think your normal operation temperature should be more around 195 degrees.

I do believe you are looking at the Oil Pressure gauge. It is metric in KPa. It increases when the rpm's go up. 275 is about 40 psi and 550 is about 80 psi.

 

Totally normal operation.
