Transmission Problems

Was shifting really hard on 2nd and would not downshift at 30-40 mph in the highway when I try to accelerate to blend with the traffic unless I really floor it or pump the gas pedal. I changed the tranny fluid with the right synthetic dextron VI and lucas and the thing got a little better but it still isn't right, what is going on?. Also the fluid that came out was black and very light, much lighter than the synttic I put in there.

 

Do this tranny use a tps?

 

Any ideas? Thank You.

I think that more information would help to solicit some useful advice for you

- which transmission do you have..... 4L60E or 4L80E ?

- how many miles on the transmission?

- what trouble codes (if any) have been detected ?

 

but either way ... from my personal experience, the trouble you describe is indicating that your transmission is worn out and needing a total rebuild....

 

transmission fluid should not be black... this indicates that the transmission has been run hot... and this heat has likely accelerated the wear on your clutches and valves in the transmission....

 

another comment ... transmission fluid change is a preventative maintenance thing... just changing fluid and adding Lucas (.. which will not help anything at this point, btw) to a troubled transmission will not give it new life.

he has another post with essentially the same message/question that suggests that the question is related to an '04 Express 3500 ....???????

 

...still..... black transmission fluid and poor shifting says it has been run too hot too long and is now due for a total rebuild ... IMO
