derekmorse Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Hey guys, just got my truck back from the dealer. I was experiencing a shift flare when the truck shifts from 3rd to 4th. while shifting there is a slight increase in rpms then it goes into 4th. this seemed odd to me as it didn't happen after the tranny warmed up a bit. But after the dealer looked at it they said it was the "shift stabilization" but this seems like it just keeps the truck in gear longer to prevent shift hunting. what do you all think? thanks!
gmtech4 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 i was a tranny guy for a few yrs and i have to say they are full of crap,go to a different dealer and call the regional service manager, get mad ,it works ,TRANSMISSIONS DO NOT FLARE BETWEEN SHIFTS , rant off

derekmorse Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 no probs Just an update... took it too my local chevy dealer. test drove it with the tranny tech (great guy). he kinda felt it but wanted me to leave it so he could drive it a couple more times and record the shift times when cold and warm. he told me that it shifts spot on but couldn't really replicate the flare like I feel it sometimes. well this weekend towing a car for my dad, when I took off while the truck was still semi cold, it flared big time and slammed into fourth. I'm going to try to test drive it again with him to see what he says.. He basically told me that if he couldn't tell what was actually happening, that GM wouldn't let him start "throwing parts" at it. Which I understand, I'm just not sure what to do about it.
gmtech4 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 if they blow you off (they shouldn't) get the regional or district service manager involved and say that it is an unexceptable behaviour and you want a replacment GM transmission installed right *(*&^ing now, they will also flush your cooler and record the flow rate thru it (for warranty concerns).good luck ,do not back down leave it with them for sure and get a friggen loaner

Like I said he was cool about helping me (the tech) It just never flared up for him like it does from time to time for me. And the warmer the morning gets, the less it does it. So we'll see, Its just a really annoying problem.....
derekmorse Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 well, I brought the truck back and re- test drove with the tech. I was able to get the truck to flare this time around so the tech heard/felt it. So i told him to keep the truck and please get to the bottom of it. I got a call this afternoon that the tech test drove it a few more times but couldn't find a definitive problem. So he put in a call to the tech line and was waiting for a response. What are your thoughts on that? will the come up with a solution? Or are they going to say its nothing and make me mad..... I hope they solve the problem
derekmorse Posted March 24, 2010 Author Posted March 24, 2010 made my first call to gm today after the dealer told me there was nothing gm would allow them to do. Now waiting for the regional rep to call me back to see if there is anything they can do. we'll see..... so disappointed in GM.
gmtech4 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 well, good for you ,just flip out and tell them to put a SRTA in it
derekmorse Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 SRTA? oops nevermind! figures it out. I talked to the dealer tonight and they said they will drop the pan tomorrow morning to check out the valve body, which I don't think it is. And from there on they don't know what to do. I told them to address the bulletin I showed to them about shift flare caused by leaky seals, but we'll see. They said they'd have to check with the regional rep about a possible tranny swap (doubtful). but I'll tell all of this to the rep tomorrow. We'll see what happens..
gmtech4 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 sorry Derek, lol for those that do not know Service Replacement Transmission Assembly----- 3 yr warranty, and cooler flush and flow rate recorded pronounced serta class dismissed
derekmorse Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 Well, last post for now..... GM 1 - Derek 0. The could not "duplicate" the shift flare so I have to drive it and bring it back if it happens again. I assume so they can tell me they can't duplicate it again. the GM rep told me to bring it to another dealer for a second opinion but I don't know. I'll have to wait and see I guess. Thanks gmtech4 for all the responses and help!!!!
gmtech4 Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 its Rob ,no probs ,before it gets to warm, try another dealer for shits and giggles, although if they look at warranty history ,they will see that have had it looked at and tech line will reconize the VIN ,but hey go for it . or drive the shit out of it 'till it cooks lol take care derek
