Horn Upgrade?

Recommended Posts

Ok my 2008 1500 came with only the high note horn. It sounds absolutely terrible and I want to upgrade it. I am currently torn between just adding a low note and adding a whole other system all together. I have heard some good things about the Wolo Bad Boy and it is almost exactly the same price as the low note horn. So do you guys have any suggestions? Should I go with the Wolo, Low note, or none of the above?

Love the second video! It's the perfect sound.

Which exact model is that Jerry? Hornblaster Shockers? Anything else I need to know?

**edit: I see it's the HB4H from your sig.

Well I grabbed a bad boy at Auto Zone and hooked it up to a battery charger to try it out. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORN. It sounds terrible. WAY too high pitched. I can't believe the reviews were as good as it was. How much would it cost to have a train horn setup lol. It would haft to either be on a separate switch or be able to be toggled between factory and the train horn.

Colby, as I understand it the train horns and stock horn are completely isolated systems. The train horn setup doesn't touch the stock stuff.

Thanks for the heads up on the autozone horn. I've been debating buying something like that here but was worried about having the situation you described.

A kit like 06Z71Silvy has above is $500 - $550 on Ebay plus shipping and that would be quite a bit to where I live. Then there's the installation. I'd like to put the tank & compressor in the box to keep it out of the snow and salt and run the trumpets up front (say in the spare battery location under the hood). But they only give 10' long tubing in the kit. Guess I could buy longer ones. Jerry, how'd you mount yours? I'm tempted to put the tank and compressor right behind the front bumper, below the rad.

Heres my cardomain.com page that shows my install...

I highly suggest going to www.hornblasters.com if you are interested in these kits. The price will be very competitive with what's on ebay and on hornblasters there is the forum (www.trainhornforums.com) That has the guys that sell the products and the vendors that back them up! The Viair rep (compressor) is on the board and is very helpful with installs / and tech questions .

Ive upgraded my kit over and over so what i got installed is a bit more than the $500 or so :flag: but its all worth it the first time you press the button or pull the valve when you get cut off! Train horns dont create road rage, they prevent it....

BTW. Those are my old horns ... I will still have them on my truck but the K3LA will take its place

There is the low note. I should warn you the horn is in a spot that is a pain to get too. We actually never did suceed in getting to it. If anybody knows the trick then please let me know!

I would love to put in some train horns, but that may haft to wait until the bank account recovers from putting in a two way remote start.

anyone know where i can get just the stock low tone?? or anyone wanna sell one the dont use?!?!?!

pretty please?!

My truck has only one horn, but how do you tell if it is the high or low note? It's mounted on the driver's side, under the battery/windshield washer fluid reservoir. If I was to buy the other horn, could I mount it next to the one I already have and splice into the wires?

Why not replace the existing horn with a louder one? Griot's Garage has these horns made by Hella. They are rated at 108 dB.

All you should have to do is to disconnect the wire leading to the factory horn and connect it to these horns which can be mounted ia any convenient location. Or use the included relay for more power and use the factory horn wire to control the relay.
