Steering/suspension Issue?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2006gmc sierra 2500hd and when i turn the wheel it seems like something is loose in the dash or something, it kind of makes a knocking noise when it hits a bump at all, i really havent got the slightest idea of what this could be. If anyone has any knowledge of this please let me know. thanks all

I searched the forum after i posted this and saw that it was the steering shaft, it said to grease it, but how much does a new one cost, because i dont want to go through all the trouble to grease it if its just going to happen again, if anyone can tell me where to get one and how much they roughly cost that would be awesome, my truck is no longer under warranty so i know i do not want to take it to the dealer to pay out the ass for it. If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it

it sounds like you have a bad intermediate shaft. I had the same problem with mine. I just bought a borgeson heavy duty steering shaft, about $230. What happens is the gease works it's way to the end of the shaft and it will make a knocking noise. I installed mine 15,000 miles ago and no problems.

The stock non-greasable unit is something like 60 or 70 dollars(dealership). I have the new one and i guess its better. I have clicking, snapping and all sorts of sounds comin from my column.
