Dude...that doesnt sound like Piston slap....it usually goes away within 2-3 min of start up.

What your describing sounds much more like rod knock...which is really bad news....Take it to a really really good shop and have them have a listen to it.

I am not sure what the piston slap is, but was hoping you all could help. When I start my truck in the morning and dont let it warm up at all, but start to drive I hear a knocking noise. I was trying to find out if anyone might have known what it is and if there is anything to do about it?

Yeah, I have heard some people with the slap all day long, but it was never head turning loud. More like dead lifter sound.

Did you find anything out?

Truck goes in the local dealership on Tuesday ,next week .

have wait see what the outcome is

Never got much help from the dealer , Unless you believe in a motor job in a bottle ....lol

They changed the oil an added some type of GM additive , They clain the motor will never hurt making the noise , but each day its getting worse . I guess i will have to swap in a engine ,either a used unit or new replacement .

Anybody got any sugestions on were to find a good 5.3?

Let the additive have some time to work. It was probably EOS.

Give it about 1000 miles and see if the noise starts to subside. You probably have a collapsed lifter or a few. If that doesn't work, toss a bottle of ATF in the oil about 500Miles before the next oil change, that will clean out all the oil passages, and your probably getting the noise due to a blockage somewhere.

If you had some real bad issue like a rod knock or something of that nature, the techs would have told you you needed a rebuild.

Think thats what i will do, If was serious like a rod or something, would have not lasted this long .maybe i need a good sounding exhaust keepmy mind off the noise ...lol

Step 1: place index finger and thumb on top and bottom of button marked VOL

Step 2: squeeze finger and thumb together in order to grip the knob

Step 3: rotate clockwise

repeat until noise subsides.
