Gm Brake Lines And Abs With Mopar Axles.

I am getting ready to have a 9.25 and dana 44 stuffed under my '97 sierra. I was wondering about the function of my ABS with these new-to-me mopar axles. Also, will my brake lines connect to these axles or is there a tricky way to make it work?

Brake lines may have to be modified, i.e; lengthened/shortened, bigger or smaller connectors etc....ABS however....not a chance. You would need to run the DODGE ABS system...It can be done...but not worth it IMO.

Ya im not a big ABS fan myself, i was just wanting to know if it would affect my truck in any ways. I have heard that you can have your ABS flashed out of your computer....but I dont know. One of those drunken bbq conversations and that one guy there who knows everything mentioned it. Started paying shop and ex-wifes husband got suckered into buying my fishin boat....so she should be rollin in the door soon.

You sure can flash it out...its called removing the fuse for the ABS. The light will even stay off...its like ABS never existed.

The ABS program is not part of the PCM...its on the BCM as far as I know...and I dont know anyone who can reflash a BCM.

Well right on. If I can just pull the fuse, keep the stupid light off and just tape and tuck the wires someplace...then thats what I'll do. Another thing is my tcase. My front diff actuates off of an electrical signal from my tcase telling it to enguage. The dodge axle is ran off of vacume. Once i put the dodge axle in, my tcase will have no where to send its signal. I know from experience that if a front actuator goes out on a GM IFS truck or gets unplugged, that when you push the 4hi or 4low button, it will just flash for a little bit and then click back into 2hi. Any thoughts? I plan on running a 4x4 POSI-lok on the front axle so I dont have to use the vacume set up.

Yup. You run the front drive actuator hooked up to nothing. Completely wired in, but not bolted to an axle.

So I have to keep my IFS actuator plugged into my system and just tie it up out of the way basically?

Yeah....I am 95% sure this would work...In all theory it should...in practice..I have never done it.

:D That was uncalled for....naw just kidding. Your a bastard too, so there. And I was just thinking of somthing cheap to add a little pep to the truck before I get the stroker built....and then I would have a turboed stroker. Who wouldn't love that?

You're the one with the 300 dollar STS turbo kit....and your calling me a bastard. :uhoh::lol::lol::lol:

Well actually I think that kit is a knock-off from an sts kit. I really want either a turbo or supercharger, like I posted in another forum, but still not sure which was I want to go. First things first, front end needs to get done then some other things to the truck before the engin and a forced induction system. Turbos sound cooler then a super but a super can come with a CARB sticker. SMOG sucks.

As long as you spend a little time tuning either will meet Emissions man. I'm still not 100% sure how stuff works for you guys.

Does everything you put on your vehicles have to have a CARB sticker? Or do you have to pass an emissions test and its all good no matter what you have done?

Well its safe to say that California is the butt hole of the USA. Anything I do to my truck needs to have a CARB sticker to show that it is smog legal in Califnoria. I almost failed visiual because my airaid intake didn't have the sticker. The guy passed it anyways because he said he sees them come in all the time and knows that they are legal and to just contact airaid and get a sticker sent. Doing an engin swap means that I need an engine that is 1 or more years newer then the vehicle the donor motor is going into ( '97 gmc needs '98+ engine) with ALL smog equipment which came factory with that motor. Engine also needs to be in the same weight class as the vehicle its going into. Meaning I cant justify sticking a 460 into my ranger becuase they are in different weight classes. As for superchargers, they come with CARB numbers and are smog legal as long as I have that stupid sticker under my hood in PLAIN sight for the smog guy to see. For turbos, I THINK.....I have to ok it with a ref at DMV before doing the modification and then when completed will have to take it back down to DMV to have the ref bird-dog my truck to make sure everything is done saftly and correctly bla bla bla and then I get a sticker saying "yep, hes good to go" that I will place under my hood then go have it smogged then back to DMV for new registration...I beleive. Yes, its a hassle but to hear a v8 rev up to 5,000 rpms and then go "CHHHHHHHH" and whistle is well worth it I think.
