Yet Another Evap Post

Hi Everyone-

 

I spent quite a bit of time looking at all of the P0442 posts on here, and I still have a couple questions...

1. on my 2001, it still has the old style vent valve. If I replace it, how do I get that OEM connector to come loose from the inlet? I can't figure it out, and more than that, I can't really get my hand in there very well.

 

 

2. I have seen a number of posts about equivalent parts. I DO NOT want to spend the $200-plus to get the "new style" valve and re-route the hose. Sorry, GM, but the old style has worked just fine for the last 140K- can't see the need to spend the money. If it were that bad, there should have been a safety recall or something.

 

3. I went to the dealer today to get a reccomended substitute solenoid- the one that is mentioned for the cavalier, part number 10382105, but the inlet port looked too big, and didn't look like the standard connector I mentioned above would fit it...

 

So now I am a bit stuck. I seriously do not want to take this to the dealer and have them do this re-route thing to the tune of several hunderd dollars- so if anyone has successfully replaced the valve with another version, please post the part number you used and where you got it... I would really appreciate it.

 

BTW, I know that P0442 is for a small leak- but I have already checked everything and replaced the purge valve on the manifold- no luck at clearing the code... also, mine is the 4.3, not the V8..

yep, truck runs with no problems. But the emissions tag is out, so it's only a matter of time before the cops ticket me. Also, should say that I have a code reader/clearer, so I cleared the code after the purge valve replacement. Came back 2 days later.
