Timing Chain

Hey fellas I'm curious about the timing chain in a 2005 4.8 Silverado. I've got 125k on the motor and was wondering what the expected life of the chain and gearset is. I did a quick search in the forum but found very few posts regarding timing chain replacement/breakage so any advise/experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated.

basicly the life of the engine... Timing belts are changed at intervals because they are prone to breakage, and when they go they usually take some valves with them..

 

Chains don't have any history at dying at any documented mileage, and the gen 3 GM engines may rattle a little, have some cold start knock,, but they don't fail..

 

So,, drive on..

correct, by the time that timing chain is worn out, so will be the piston rings, valve seals, oil pump, etc..... then you can change it when you rebuild all of that. The GEN III+ motors were built to last. It's no big deal to get 200,000+ miles from the motor if properly maintained.
