Alternative To #24215535 Deep Trans Oil Pan W/drainplug?

Hi guys,

I have been on the search for the infamous delco #24215535 deep transmission pan with the drainplug for a 4L60E transmission. I know they arent made anymore. Is there a suitable alternative (that is not over-priced)? I dont need chrome, or fins, or anything like that - just a simple deeper pan with a drainplug.

Thanks!

take your pan to a welder and weld in a bung ,done ,no pissin around, deep dish is not required, holds maybe an extra 1/2 quart.

You could also try lmc truck. I saw some tranny pans on there the other day. The ones I saw were for GMT800's though.

You can also stop by NAPA and buy a drain plug you drill and install yourself. Did this on one of my other projects and it works pretty slick. Personally, for as often as it needs to be drained or changed, I didn't bother on my last 2 transmisson replacements, but then again I found a buddy with a trans fluid machine...

I bought the Napa drain plug kit. But after getting the pan off and looking at the plug, i couldnt do it. I convinced myself that it would inevitably leak. I know you dont want fins and all the extras but the mag hytec pan is very nice. But, yeah, just have shop weld in a bung for you.

Are these pans aluminum or steel? Can you weld a steel bung into a aluminum pan with a TIG welder or is there some fancy way to weld two unlike metals?

By the time you pay to have the drain plug welded in correctly, you might as well try to buy a pan with a drain plug already in it. Just my $.02.

Exactly! If I could TIG it here at the house, I would - but right now it just makes more sense to buy one thats ready to go.

FYI: I called, and the Dorman pan is 76.6mm tall (3.016"). My OEM pan measures about 2.5" tall. Not sure if the 3.016" dimension includes the drain plug protrusion...

Are the Dorman pans any good? I'm thinking about going this route and both RockAuto and Autozone can get them.

Yes. Dorman is an OEM supplier.

Let us know what you find. It would be nice to get a drain plug on it and maybe some cooling fins.

I would think you can find one from '95 - at least '02. I don't think they ever changed the pan.
