2003 Deenali Won't Turn Over

Hello all,

 

Yesterday my 2003 Denali quit in front of my house. The fuel was very low and I think it ran out of gas. My wife was in it at the time and she said she heard a clunk from the back? I have since put fuel in it and tried to start it. When I turn the key to the on position everything is normal. When I move it to the start postion nothing happens. No click or anything. When I release back to on I hear something in the back. I notice the passlock indicator on the dash comes on approx. 30 seconds after the start is released to on. I have a notice in the driver information center that says that the stabilitrack system is disabled. I have searched everywhere I know and have tried the test where you are suppost to try and start and wait for 10 min for the passlock light to flash 3 times and repeat 3 times and the light never flashes. I tried charging the battery even though it is fully charged, I disconnected the battery for a while and nothing. I also read to touch the + and- leads off the truck together for 10 sec to reset and nothing. I called the local GM dealer and they said other than getting it flat bed transfered to their shop I could try and try and start it and leave in the on position for 40 min. Tried that and nothing.

 

 

I appreciate any help or info on this problem.

Try your other ignition key, if you have one

 

What kind of "noise at back" are you hearing??

 

Does the engine turn over?? Do all the dash lights work??

 

We need alot more info...

I can hear a faint thud from the rear of the vehicle everytime I release the start position. I have tried both keys. The engine does not turn over and the starter does not even click or try at all. There is no check engine light on and the park indicator is not showing vehicle in park when it is. I have tried starting it in neutral as well. All the dash lights, radio interior and exterior lights work as usual. Voltage at the battery is good. Keyfob door locks and unlock work as normal.

 

I am stumped.

I had a similar issue with my 2000 a few years ago. I was running to the store to get some things at work and when I came out the truck which had been running fine just did nothing. I found a blow fuse (can't recall which one) and replaced it only to have it blow again and again. It ended up being a chafed wire but was a major PIA. Moral of the story - start with checking some fuses?

the thud at rear of truck is your AutoRide system...normal

 

Ignition Switch is your next step (in the steering column)

 

Why??

 

You stated your SECURITY light is on...put a switch in it...

 

EDIT......before you put a switch in it, there is a wiring harness that runs DOWN the firewall, next to your brake pedal pushrod. CHECK THAT HARNESS. There were a bunch of 800's that rubbed thru, popping fuses and causing no-starts.

Thanks, I have looked thru all the clear fuses and aside from pulling every little colored one out and test it with an ohm meter everything looks ok. Next I wil check voltage at the starter and get my wife to try and start it. I don't expect any voltage on the start side of the starter. Is the passlock light suppost to stay on when the ignition is on and the vehicle is not running? Would the check engine light stay on untill the motor is running?

The passkey light will go OFF , even with the key in the ON position

 

That's how we test No-Starts at the store.

 

When the passkey light STAYS ON, the PCM thinks the vehicle is in a theft-mode, and disables engine starting.

 

Still, check fuses, and check that harness by the brake pedal pushrod...

Thanks, I will check all the fuses and definately check the harnes around the brake push rod. I already chased a wire problem where my brake pedel pressed down on some wires, cut one and my interior light fuse would blow. If all the fuses are ok. how do I get the vehicle out of theft mode?

in order for the PCM to come out of theft mode, the wiring-fuse-or-ignition switch has to be repaired.

Well I found the problem 20a fuse for pcm2 was blown. I swapped it out and everything seems to be ok. Took the truck out for a ride to fill with fuel and charge the battery a bit.
