How To Add Ipod To '04 Silverado

I am trying to figure out what would be the best way to play an ipod in my '04 silverado. I just bought the truck a few weeks ago. I'm really liking it but I really would like to play my ipod in it. It has the factory bose system in it. I was thinking about either putting a tape deck maybe in that extra slot near the 12v plugs and using a tape adaptor thing to plug in the ipod? Or what would be better if I could wire in an interface thing that would allow me to plug into the ipod dock and control it through my steering wheel like the radio and CD. I just hope I don't have to go with FM transmitter. I hate those things. Also, is it hard to access or pull out the dash and factory CD unit?I've been thinking I could probably give up my 6 disc changer for a single disc play as long as it had the ipod dock system in it.

peripheral isimple. they probably have one that plugs right into that year GM. You wont be able to control the ipod with the steering wheel controls I don't think.

I have a system for my 08 sierra that charges the ipod (well, my older one-doesnt charge my ipod touch). I have to look at what make it is, I will get back to you. They make a model specific products to incorporate your radio to be compatible. Mine actually displays the ipod info on the radio display (ie song, artist, etc). Additionally, steering wheel radio controls work with it. I strongly recommend staying away from tape adapters, you won't get the dynamic (hz) range the ipod is capable of. I am not familiar with the 04 radios, but I am sure that being as recent as your vehicle is there will be a delco match. It only takes about a half hour to install, have to pull your factory radio and plug an adapter harness in the back, and run some wiring to the desired location of your Ipod.

post-21373-1271345214_thumb.jpgIt's called a "Peripheral ISGM73 GM iPod Interface Kit ". It's not compatible with factory radios that have a 6-disk in dash CD changer though.

I'm going to put one in mine also. The cd won't eject so instead of replacing the radio, I'm going to use my iPod.

The dash/gauge front cover is held on with clips, just gently start pulling out and it will come off. I think you might have to tilt your steering wheel down and/or pull the shift lever down also? The stereo then is held in with 4 screws/bolts. Fairly easy and simple task to do.

Thanks for all the help! I looked up the peripherial on Crutchfield and they are actually telling me that it will work with my system. I think I may go ahead and give it a try.

I also thought I could just replace the existing CD changer with a new one that is ipod ready. But I would also have to get a $50 adapter for some wiring, and then only have one cd instead of 6. I guess it makes since to try this adpater kit.

Thanks for the info on taking out the dash. That sounds easy enough.

Your welcome. Thats what this forum is for...i actually bought mine off this forum from a member. While i have had it for over a year now and its in the truck, and i got my ipod after, i learned i need to buy the newer cable for the ipod touch. When i plug mine in it spaz's out. So i just need to order the cable and then buy a good case for my ipod and leave it in the glove box. Glad i could help!
