Wtb 07+ Sierra Tailgate Plastic

I'm looking for the plastic trim piece that goes on the top edge of the tailgate. My truck came with the cheap thin one that I assume was part of the plastic bed liner kit. I have taken the plastic bed liner out and want the factory plastic piece that goes on the top edge of the tailgate. Does anyone have one that is in good shape that they are willing to part with?

Anyone know the part number for a new one?

Thanks,

Do you mean this one?

If so, then yes, I have one I can part with.

Let me know.

That's the one i'm looking for. If you have all of the hardware and the original poster is not interested in this let me know. will have to ship it to Florida 32092.

Jason, (hehe)

I just changed the GMC tailgate cap to a Chevy tailgate "spoiler". I think this is what you are doing. The GMC cap is plain. The pic above is a Chevy part. I ordered a new one.

You will need the "spoiler", 4 bolts, an unused piece of 3M 2-sided tape, and 4 "riv-nuts" These cannot be removed in re-usable condition. You need to get them from a GM dealer.

The original part is held on with 1/2 inch 3M tape on both edges. It will probably leave A LOT of residue. I used mineral spirits and denatured alcohol to remove the residue (on a rag, then wipe).

I second the new rivet nuts, but be careful. When I replaced my spoiler (bought truck used and it was cut up pretty bad) I re-used the ones that were there, but it required some metal work and some JB weld. The rivet nuts are supposed to be re-usable, but the ones they used at the factory weren't the right size for the thin sheetmetal, and they just spun when you tried to remove the screws.

You may have the same issue if you try to replace them, as getting them out will most likely damage the tailgate pretty bad. If you have the skill, you can fix the damage with a dolly & body hammer, then put the new rivet nuts in.

No,Riv-nuts are not supposed to be reusable, once they are tighten/crushed down they cannot be removed without damaging them to the point of "non-reusability"

FYI The rivet nuts come pre-installed in the tailgate. I went to GMC and bought 4 of them and when I got home I noticed they are already installed. Doh....
