Hypertech Programmer III

Can owers of the Hypertech Programmer III teach me about it (beyond that of what the website already says)? it seems extremely cool, and i definatly want better performance. How much is one? Thanks

Pretty cool tool! Don't buy it for just the power increase. All of the settings are what makes it worth the money(to me), especially the shift change settings.

WORD!!

I got mine on EBAY for $200, and its much more than just a power increase module.

If your buying it just for the performance, you may be disappointed.

I have adjusted my Spedometer for my larger tires, i have adjusted for new gears, firmer shifts, different shift points, higher octance gas, and top speed limiter.

I love it.

If you say i will be disapointed by just performance then why? But improving shifting and what-not is VERY important to me. Im getting really psyched for this thing. I may just have to save up and buy one.

I'd look into the SUPERCHIPS reprogrammer before making a decision. The Hypertech makes changes at wide-open throttle only. The Superchips reprogrammer performs changes throughout the RPM band. Where do you do most of your driving?

If you want more kick from the Hoe your going to have to do some serious work on the induction/exhaust equation - and consider some work on the tranny - the HPP3 will kick it up, no question, but don't expect miracles off a stock engine.

If you REALLY want to toy with your PCM get LS1Edit. Costs a bit more but you can change MUCH more with it than a Power Programmer. Most people buy the HPP3 to kill their road speed limiter, play with shift points etc. I got LS1Edit to kill torque management, change my road speed limit, play with my idle and fuel maps after a cam install. Still havent gotten it to run quite right yet. LS1Edit is more versatile depending on what you want to do.

how bout ease of use? im a dummy when it comes to complicated menus and that. The reason i like the idea of the hypertech is because i dont want to have to figure out shifting points and what-not by myself. I'm just not that good with cars. I do plan on putting a flowmaster 40 series dual on my hoe, and a new intake (which is yet to be determined what kind). I know that will help ALOT. all wisdom greatly appreciated.

There really arent that many menus. As far as shift firmness goes, I myself havent decided to go that route yet. You can change the shift points based on RPM. If you want, head to Carputing.Com to check out all the other fun stuff with Edit.

I used the HPP III and a low temp stat on my 1996 GMC Jimmy 4.3L and it helped with acceleartion and the shift points, I also threw on the K&N FIPK. But I sold the Jimmy and am keeping the HPP III until Hypertech comes out with programming for the new 4.2L I-6. Then I am sending it back for reprogramming. So in my opinion I liked it, but I think the price is a little much, I think I paid $300 for mine or so.

The HPP3 is worth it to tune the shift points - just got me .2 at the track at higher temps - and I have the TQM removed.

LS1Edit is not available for the 2002's - still waiting. ;)

Almost double the cost of a HPP3

If can only be used on one PCM! Does that mean one at a time like the Hypertech, or one vehicle. If you trade vehicles, is it another $100?

It is locked to one PCM but you can add a VIN for 100 bucks if you have a few people who want to do a group purchase kinda thing. I dont know what you would do if you got a newer truck, write the guys at carputing.com and ask them. Only reason I have it is because I helped pay for it along with a couple of other people, I almost bought an HPP3. LS1Edit really is easy to use once you toy with it for a while.
