Tow Haul Mode Button Quit

Recommended Posts

I just looked at 7 pages of search results, and the only troubleshooting advice ive seen is to check the wires coming from the switch to see if there broken. Does anyone here have any other advice on what else i could check? Also i think the tranny is stuck in the tow haul mode! The light doesn't come on but it seems like the transmission no longer goes into overdrive. Is there any definitive way of telling if my transmission is stuck in the tow/haul mode? The transmission works fine otherwise.

I know if i put mine in tow haul and leave it on, shut the truck off and turn it back on, tow haul is off....

Maybe a plug popped out under the column?

Even when you are in the tow/haul mode, the transmission will shift into the 4th (overdrive) gear. But it happens around 70 MPH because it will shift at much higher RPMs. So if you are driving around town at lower speeds than 70, it may not shift into the overdrive at all if it is indeed "stuck" in the tow/haul mode.

yup, thats the way its supposed to work.

For the record I have had the truck up to 120km/h and have yet to see my truck shift into 3rd with T/H activated

The way to know for sure if your in T/H mode....1st gear will not shift till about 3000 rpm even with light throttle...or about 35-40km/h...20-25MPH

The tranny could be going out as well. Hard shifting and no OD are classic signs of a 4L60E going out.

True that...I didn't even pay attention to the year of truck he has....yeah a 2000, it could very well be at the end of its life man.

Boy,do I feel dumb.

(Update), I pulled the panel off where the wires connected to a plug.I then put a jumper wire between the wire ends in the plug and the tow/haul mode worked, and the light came on. So i took a second look at the wires.Somehow I had pushed the broken wire into the top wire gourmet that held the wires.

I decided to fix it on the truck because i couldn't get the connector plug to pull apart. I guess if i would of dropped the steering column things might of went different. But I took the lazy route. How does the plug come apart? Is it just a press fit with tabs? It almost looks like there is a lever on it. Hard to tell cause it is in a ways. Also how does one get the plastic shroud past the tilt lever?
