Can't Get Into 4-low

I'm having trouble getting my 2005 Silverado into 4 Low. I have push button 4wheel drive and have no problems getting into auto or 4 high. When I push 4-Low the light just flashes and it stays in 2 wheel. Any thoughts?

You need to make sure your truck is in neutral before putting it into 4 low.

was the transmission in neutral when you tried to put it in 4wd ?

mine does almost the same thing if the trans is not in neutral - flashes and stays in 4hi

Yeah, what these guys said above. Stop, put it in neutral, then put the truck in 2 low, and you will hear a clunk and maybe a shudder as it locks it in, and then don't rev the truck very high either...slow speeds only.

Shouldn't ever really need 4 low unless really pulling short distances with a heavy load. I know when i bought my truck though i made sure it went into 4 low though, so can understand you wanting to try it out.

I have noticed sometimes depending on the terrain I have to put the brake down or hold the brake pedal....... Also, Place in park or neutral with the shifter...... If that does not work... Kill the truck and try it.......

From the Book

To shift to the Four-Wheel-Drive Low position, the

ignition must be in RUN and the vehicle must be

stopped or moving less than 3 mph (5 km/h) with the

transmission in NEUTRAL (N). The preferred method

for shifting into Four-Wheel-Drive Low is to have

your vehicle moving 1 to 2 mph (1.6 to 3.2 km/h).

Push the Four-Wheel-Drive Low button.

You must wait for the Four-Wheel-Drive Low indicator

light to stop flashing and remain on before shifting

your transmission in gear.

Notice: Shifting the transmission into gear before

the requested mode indicator light has stopped

flashing could damage the transfer case. To help

avoid damaging your vehicle, always wait for the

mode indicator lights to stop flashing before shifting

the transmission into gear.

It is typical for your vehicle to exhibit significant

engagement noise and bump when shifting between

Four-Wheel-Drive Low and Four-Wheel-Drive High

ranges or from NEUTRAL with the engine running.
