Dealer Says The Radio Takes A Hour To Learn The New Vin

How much should it cost and how long should it take for a GM tech to teach a replacement OEM radio the new VIN? I just installed a take-off OEM am/fm/cd in my 2010 work truck that didn't come with a cd and the display shows "LOCKED". When I talked to the service writer a few days ago he said they could do it but it could take as long as an hour for the radio to relearn the new VIN. Somehow I figured it would be pretty much instantaneous once the tech navigated to the right menu on the tech tool.

Should take about 5 minutes... but it sounds like the dealer is CHARGING you for an hour of labor to do it based on the flat rate schedule or a figure pulled out of his ***.

I agree... I have a Tech2 - I can tell you it can't take more than 5mins...

 

I ended up just buying a used tech2 on ebay because I got tired of all the little things the dealership charges for...
