Why are there two different displays on these radio's? My 07 shows only the song or artist as per the info button. My buddies 09 shows thesong and artist. This while listening to XM. Is there a software upgrade for the older radios to get this display?

I would also like to know if there is a software update. It's kind of annoying when you have to press the info button to see who sings the song or to see the title of the song....It would be nice if our radios displayed all the info on screen at once..

Hey guys,

In my '09 it displays the song, artist and even the radio station....without pressing any button....and I don't have XM, so it's not just for XM radio that it does this. It doesn't, however, do this all at once. It sorta scrolls through it while the song is playing and generally only displays the station when you first turn the truck on or change stations?

Rob, XM doesn't scroll. But FM stations do and yes our 07's will scroll while listening to FM. But turn on XM and all you will get is the song or the artist depending on how you setup the info..

Gotcha! Makes sense. I don't have the XM part, but would certainly have the same opinion! I would want it to display without pressing any buttons either. That doesn't make much sense, unless....maybe....XM wasn't a big enough thing back just a couple years ago so they hadn't put much thought into it yet?

The question here is not what XM does, but what our radios do. The 07's do not show song and artist just one or the other. The 09 as pictured here shows the artist and the song. So why can't the 07's as pictured here show this as well?

why does the o7 one have 2 cd slots? seems odd... i have an 09 and my display is like that of the first picture, with 6cd changer radio, non-bose. my radio looks like the second picture.

Press the "i" button to the left of the display switches between the two views shown in the pictures, at least on my 09 it does.

Problem is, everytime you switch stations, you have to press the "i" button again to go back to the view in the second picture.,

How can I make it stay in the second screen?

Don't believe you can make it stay. Everytime you change the channel you need to press the i button to display artist and title with my 09. I'm not sure what yall are saying is happening in the 07 though? What happens when you press the i button?

On the 07's when listening to XMonly view the song title or after going into the info you can change to the artist but not both at the same time. If you are listening to FM, the screen scrolls displaying the song title and the artist. As for the pic with 2 cd slots, that radio is equiped with a DVD player. If anyone out there has an 09 or 10 and is subscribed toXM,what is the display show when a song is playing?

I have XM on my 09...on XM, it is always like picture #1, doesn't scroll though, top line in center (where pic shows "XM 20 on 20") switches through 3 screens shots, station name, then artist, then song title, then starts over...

If I press the "i" button, then it goes to picture #2, untill you change the station...

Just wish there was a way to stay on Picture #2...cleaner look, and all the info at once...

    • This is NOT impact damage nor neglect. There were previous class action lawsuits because of such paint preparation st GM manufacturing plant. Not just the Cherry Red Color. This paint is applied in three processes to obtain the desired color.  The manufacturer will cover for 36 months or 36k miles only. That rust is actually corrosion because of the paint process failure. Corrosion is covered for 100,100 miles or a certain months. However their corrosion doesn't include this type. Go figure. Clearly manufacturer knew from previous paint issues. This started 3 weeks ago out of the blue.
    • Is it time to put a piece of tape over the CEL?
    • consider doing electrical testing?  I would guess some power or ground wire/connection has a problem.   alldata.com has wiring diagrams, connector pinouts and diagnostic procedures you can use to find where the problem is.
    • can you tell if the reader is actually trying to get codes, and the pcm is reporting none, or is your reader just silently failing because it's not communicating with the pcm?
    • Any joy with this truck seems to be short-lived.   The CEL for P0172 ("bank 1" too rich) is now "intermittent".   I'm not sure where to check, or re-check, and my energy to keep chasing problems with junk is wearing thin. The P0172 seems to set as I'm coming to a stop, completely off the throttle, when fully warm. At least, that's what it's done the 3? times it's set.   Everything appears normal on the scanner EXCEPT long term fuel trim. There's only one bank on this vehicle because it's an OBD 1.5 with only one upstream O2 sensor. At idle, it's around -16.4% and will dip to -18% occasionally at idle or off-throttle. LTFT approaches 0 when throttle is held at 2500rpm. Short term appears normal, much closer to zero all the time. The LTFT tells me the engine is running rich at idle but compensating at higher load. But, why?   The EVAP purge valve doesn't appear to be leaking/sucking fuel vapor continuously. Is it sticking just as I come to a stop and the engine is choking on fuel vapor and sets the P0172? But that doesn't explain the persistently negative LTFT. Disconnecting the purge valve doesn't seem to make any difference.   I suppose that leaves another dang issue with the fuel injector. A leaking fuel pressure regulator, a new leak in the spider, or a leaking fuel injector/poppet valve I didn't see, or a small crack in one of the spider legs.   The vacuum line leading to the fuel pressure regulator doesn't have raw fuel in it. It doesn't even smell like fuel when it's pulled off, not until you suck air through it, then you can tell it leads to a fuel component. I'd consider that normal? Nothing is signaling this is a FPR issue from the outside, at least.   The oil smells like fuel but it's not building volume. I've noticed most oil in most engines smells like fuel to some degree so it's hard to say if the smell is an issue or not. Or if the engine just still smells like fuel because the crankcase was full of it a few hundred miles ago. But it's been changed twice since that original issue of the leaking fuel line dumping fuel into the intake.   Patience is running very thin. Every win seems to be accompanied by two steps backwards, or another issue that leads to removing at least the top half of the intake manifold. Enough! LOL
