Pick Which One You Think Is Better: Powder Coat Pics

Ok, so you have the satin blk which is in between flat matte and gloss, which I'll picture all three, and the a charcoal grey. So these will be going on my stock 20's due to some warranty shops voiding warranty due to after market rims, etc.

So here is a picture of my blue truck, the stock 20's, and the same rim and truck but the rims painted blk on this random guys work truck. He acually said the dealership gave him warranty crap when he brought it in and told them they better look again at his rims as they are painted (not powder coated) Blk... They honored warranty after that.

So what color do you think? Some state to make it same color as truck but that is getting to be too pretty to me. I mean, it's a truck not a pretty car. It's supposed to be and look rugged. But maybe I'm wrong and others may think it looks good. I guess since its so dark it looks blk at night anyways. So dark blue on dark blue might not be too bad...

Anyhow, here you go....

Of the wheels pics... Number one is ugly. Number three is just horrible. Frankly I like the factory finish better than some added black. The last color you posted looks like a charcoal gray metallic finish. That might not look too bad.

BTW. Aftermarket rims do exactly NOTHING to your warranty (except for the obvious exception of the wheels). Anybody telling you different is simply wrong.

+1

The 3rd one of the wheels looks like they used finger print dusting

I've had wheels on several of my vehicles, and same with family members and friends. Not one of us have had a problem warranty. Everything is still covered as it would be with your stocks, if they're giving you a hard time ... tell them you will be contacting head office for service quality(they'll be your best friend!) OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Worst case scenario, rotate your stocks back on.

Same

+ another 1

That might look pretty cool. Certainly better than just black.

i wonder how the 3rd wheel would look opposite the way it is in the picture. The inset part being black. instead. :noway:

I think I like this one:

What if you left the bowtie and small surrounding silver ring untouched on this:

This has potential if it was cleaned up and didn't look like "fingerprint powder":

As for the warranty, I believe they wanted to look at them to make sure they weren't powdercoated. I have seen aluminum A-Arms significantly weakened by a powdercoating on snowmobiles. That is how I interpreted it anyway.

Let me tell you a thing or two about black wheels.

First, while you may think they won't require as much cleaning...Think again. They get dusty in 2.7 seconds and you can see it from 20 feet away. Second, charcoal or gunmetal usually turns out with a slightly blueish hue. And it looks great on exactly nothing. That's my experience in powdercoating wheels (buying them from a wheel manufacturer in that color already is a whole different matter).

I've got satin black wheels on my GTO, and they require dusting off every time I get in it. :noway:

Sounds like a good enough excuse to me! :)

"...but baby! The wheels were dirty, I had to "dust them off". And the supercharger saves me so much time getting the dust off!"
