So my buddy lost what sounds like a cam lobe or other valvetrain component on his 2000 2500HD "Classis" SCLB 4x4 5.7l. No power, no smoke, good rattle. He will probly just dump it since he aint the most mechanically minded and wont put the $3k++ a shop will charge him to do a crate engine install. I have wanted this truck for awhile for a farm/puller truck for my dairy. It looks like a SCLB aint worth nothing on KBB.com, $5500ish. That is running! I can get a new GMPP HT383E for $4500 in my yard. 340hp and 435tq(carbed it appears) is the output. It is a emmisions replacement for a 5.7 and will run with the stock tune. They rec a Blackbear tune though for max performance  . Have any of you ran one ot these engines? Sounds perfect for my 24' cattle trailer with 14k lbs of animals in it going over our mountain passes. A stock replacement GW 5.7 is $2100. A magnacharger is $2300ish. Would you go that route instead? Any IMHOs?
