2010 Sierra Nav - Dvd Question

This may be a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway...

I just bought a 2010 Sierra SLT with factory NAV, rear view camera, xm, onstar, etc. I didn't purchase the rear seat entertainment system.

The way I read the NAV manual, I should be able to play a DVD in the NAV unit while the truck is in park. Nowhere does it say it is "optional", or "if equipped." But everytime I put a DVD in the top disc slot, it ends up saying "Disc Read Error."

Are some of these designed not to play DVD's? Is it a technical limitation, or a software limitation? What, if possible, needs to be done to allow it to play DVDs?

OK, it's more like 3 questions....

Thanks,

I think I just found the answer. My NAV unit doesn't have the DVD logo on the lower left corner. I guess I screwed up not buying the RSE.....

Pretty much, yeah. Only the ones with the DVD/dolby/dts logos can play DVDs in the dash.

Just change out the Nav head with a DVD capable unit from EBAY. RSE would have been about $1200 as an option. You may be able to get a DVD

capable NAV unit for less than the cost of RSE.
