Idle Temps

Got a 2001 silverado, 5.3,auto,ect...

120 K miles..

 

Just replaced my clutch fan for the heck of it,, which it's engaging properly..

Water pump is about 1.5 years old.. Coolant was changed with the water pump..

Radiator is externally great..

Truck runs 195-197 in the 95 degree South Carolina summer, tranny runs about 160 degrees..

 

I left my truck idling in the yard with the AC running today inflating a tire on another truck,, and moved that truck with a chain, ect.. There was alot of idle time,, about 45 min total..

Truck got up to 211 degrees on my scangauge,, temp gauge in dash showed the normal right before the middle position...

 

How high would the temps actually go?? Is this because my truck has such a low idle(500ish rpm's)?? Is it the just the ambient temps?? Should I install electric fans?

Sounds totally normal to me.

I kinda figured they are, but there is alot of wisdom on this site.. I know that t-stats do not open fully until 20 degree's over their rating,, and that'd be 215 before it was open fully..

 

Also the ac being on and the 11 by 11 haden supercooler,, that's alot of heat before the radiator..

 

Like I said, driving up the road, scangauge shows usually 195 on the dot,, even towing my boat..

sounds fine, next time shut it down though if your going to idle for 45 minutes lol
