I currently have two scanners,

a Blue Point YA3120 which does OBDI and OBDII, one way,

and a MAC (built by launch) OBDII only scanner that i mainly use (no batteries and backlit, and does simple tests like o2, and emissions)

I want to get a new scanner, give my brother my BP scanner.

I want a reasonably priced bi-directional scanner. For use own my own vechiles, im not a auto mechanic. I just want to be able to test with the scanner, not just replace random parts hoping it clears a code. I dont want to spend more than 1500. I looked at used MODIS the snap on guy had on the truck, but want to shop around, what do you guys think?

I use an elm327 hooked to my computer running digimoto lite. It'll tell you everything: hard codes, soft codes, what every sensor is reporting(ex. Maf, map, o2, tps, iat, and much more), and your fuel trims. Plus you can get a cheapo elm327 off ebay for around 30bills. It's what I use, and I love it. :)
