Steering Wheel

I have a 2009 LS Crew Cab. I have been thinking about replacing my current steering wheel with a leather wrapped that has radio controls. Can this be done relatively easily? Do I purchase the wheel from the factory or somewhere else? Any help is appreciated!

If you are going to type a response why not just answer the question?

I replaced mine with a leather wheel. Piece of cake. It took some nerve to remove the airbag, but as long as you do it as instructed, all is good. The job took about 30 minutes start to finish. I bought my wheel from someone here on GMT but you might also look on Ebay. Dealer will be way too expensive. Just make sure you buy one that matches the steering wheel controls you have.

Thanks Zembonez! I am currenlty looking for a ebony/black leather wheel. I also want to get one with radio controls. From what I have read it should hook right up because I have cruise control. Is this correct? I also read somewhere where it will void your warranty. Is this correct as well? Thanks guys and gals.

If you go back with a wheel that has exactly the controls you have now it will work. Mine had OEM cruise and that is what I went back with. Adding controls is not as simple as adding the buttons. You'll need a harness and possibly some other stuff. Might wanna search the forum for others that have installed one and see what they had to do there.

Don't believe it will void your warranty. Where did you hear that? And yes more than likely it will be plug and play if you follow the instructions that have been posted on this site

Generally if you have cruise already, the radio stuff is there as well. It was in mine. Just changed the wheel, adding radio controls, and now I have full control over the radio and still have cruise as well.

If you do not have cruise, then chances are very good that you do not have the harness for radio controls or cruise.

I read about the warranty on here. So if I am getting all this information correct, going onto overload, I can get a wheel with radio controls from somewhere and is 'should' be a plug and play. I guess it is time to start really searching for a black leather wrapped with radio controls so I can be on my way!

You are all good on the warranty. Nobody will ever even know.

After a bit of searching I see I was somewhat misinformed about the radio controls. If you get a wheels that has controls AND includes the harness with it, you should be good to go. It's the harness that is unavailable from GM apparently.

ROCK ON!
