Hey y'all, I just bought some new Redwings, non-steel toed boots.  They are beauties.  I have always had Redwings, but it was time for a new pair.  HOWEVER, breaking these things in is killing my heels.  They are rubbing my heels raw!!!  Any suggestions here?  I have only had the new ones for a day, and I am at work, and I want to take them off so bad.

Suggestions on how to break these puppies in???  Aside from mink oil, I  am doing that today when I get home!

Also, what kinds of work boots do y'all wear?

Work Boots? :)

Seriously though, I used to get the cheap ones from wal-mart or target, but the only problem w/ those was the fact that the soles would wear down to nothing since I did a lot of walking at my old job.  But, now I don't have to worry about work boots.  My dad on the other hand (plumber) buys redwings.  Expensive, but they last a long time and are good boots.

As for breaking them in and it hurting your heel, I think that your computer break is a good idea :D  You may want to put on an extra pair of socks to further pad your ankle until they are broken in.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the not NEEDING workboots anymore.  I used to work on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, and you had to have steel toe boots, and top quality was the way to go.  I have always loved those boots (had em for about 9 yrs!!!)  I guess I forgot about the break-in process of my other boots, cuz these fellas are killin me ;)  I will try 2-socks tomorrow.  Gotta break em in...

8" Wolverine Durashocks non steel toe, non insulated. I also dont care for the comfort wedge sole, although lots of people like them. I beleive I have what are called the "bounce" soles.

I've always had Redwings and no problems, Now my company has decided they will no longer include Redwings in the subsidy program :)  Don't know what I'll get this year, but it won't be wolverines.

Redwings all the way, with steel toe.  Cant have enough comfort working on a flight deck in the Navy.  Best boots I ever owned, wear them every day.

Best priced hiking boots at Wal-Mart or Target. I wear out the sides of them on the roof in about a month. I also use them for my yard duties.

I use the lace-up Justin Workboots.  Best things I've found.  I buy a pair and wear them for good for a year, then they are relagated to actual work duty.  The pair I'm using for work right now are the longest lasting pair I've had yet, manure, grease, oil, mud, and the like really eat up boots, but these are still holding strong.  My pair I wear for good are starting to get beat up, gonna have to replace them soon.  For about $100 they can't be beat, and they really help me with my bad knee and back, gotten to the point where I'll hardly wear tennis shoes anymore.

I wear Herman Survivors steel tow boots.  They were a little rough breaking in, but are over 1 1/2 years old now and are still lasting!!!

Cool deal fellas.  I love my ol Redwings, I am just going to have to fight it with the new ones and break em in...They sure are sweet!

JP, I considered the Redwing lace-ups, but I like the ease of a slip-on wellington...

The last few pairs of workboots I have bought were 8" steeltoe Wolverine Durashocks, lace-ups.  I have had two pairs of them, both lasted about a two years before I wore them out.  I use them in much the same situation as Jp does.  For some reason I have a problem with wearing the outside edge of the soles out on my workboots, but not with my tennis shoes.  I'm about ready for another pair as the soles on the current boots are shot.

WOW! Cant believe I am the first to say Iron Age, they are very comfortable, a bit pricey but last a long time, and you can get steel toe in about any design you can think of (if you need steel toe)! As for non steel toe boots that I spend most of my time in, I have found that Cabellas makes an awesome pair, 100% waterproof and all that stuff!!!
