RyanbabZ71 Posted August 30, 2002 Posted August 30, 2002 Well we had our first day of senior design class. So far this is the front runner http://moonbuggy.msfc.nasa.gov/ ROAD TRIP TO Alabama in april!!! Second on my list is fatigue testing of D2 (tool steel)
ekonk Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 The moonbuggy sounds like a cool project, Plus a road trip is always good Do you have enough girls in the program to get a partner? I know there were a total of 3 girls who graduated in Mechanical Engr with me, I'm just wondering if it's a similar situation everywhere. As cool as the moonbuggy sounds, the fatigue testing sounds dull. A friend of mine got to do plenty of that type of stuff with the little plastic hubs inside of tape measures, and he got sick of it pretty quickly.
BIG RED DAWG Posted August 31, 2002 Posted August 31, 2002 Looks like a fun project to build. What is the budget for designing the buggy? Sounds like your pretty much limited to a bicycle based platform. I would consider using a 7000 series aluminum frame as starters. Good luck!
RyanbabZ71 Posted September 3, 2002 Author Posted September 3, 2002 Girls: in the senior design class there are about 35 people. 7 are MEs. 1 is a girl. I could always get my gf to do it if we need her. As far as the frame we would probably go with some sort of composite (still researching this).
