Want To Replace Factory Radio With Dvd/nav On 08 Yukon Xl

Hello all,

 

I have a question regarding replacement of the factory radio in my Yukon XL with a DVD/NAV in-dash unit. It appears several other forum members have done this so hopefully I can get some good guidance.

 

After checking how much an aftermarket unit would cost, a friend told me I should look into a factory unit and that they are typically alot cheaper and often available on ebay used and new. So I did a search on ebay and sure enough I found a couple different units that claim to be compatible with multiple different trucks/suvs, including my Yukon XL. The part number on the ebay unit is apparently an older part number 15940102. So, I called two different dealers to see if they could confirm this part # would work in my truck. Both were not sure but gave me the current gen part number that would work (according to them). Interestingly the two numbers from the two dealers are different. The first is 19244269 and the other is 19169885. So clearly there is more than one type of DVD/NAV head unit that will work in the truck. Is there a way to find out for sure which part # will or will not work in the dash? I am wondering if I am over-worrying a bit here that a unit may or may not be compatible with my particular truck. The unit on ebay is far cheaper than either of the two parts from the dealer but still is a great deal of money and I wouldnt want to be stuck with a unit that does not work properly.

That part number will work. It's for vehicles with RSE. You'll have to go get the "Theftlock" removed after you install it though. Just take it to the dealer and tell them to put your VIN in the unit. If you plan to use the navigation feature you'll have to install a VSS harness and a gps antenna as well.

Would installing this radio into a truck that has the basic cd/radio in it require an external amplifier? My truck is a non Bose base model.
