Need Help Finding Paint

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am repainting my quarter panel and my grille. I can't find anywhere to order the paint I need. The dealership said they don't sell it. Does anyone know a website where I can order some? The paint code is U9794.

Thanks,

Zach

idk of anywhere in particular, but check around at some local auto parts stores. One of them in the town I live will mix paint and put it in a spray can if you want.

If you haven't solved this problem already, I'll tell you how this works. Rarely are specific colors of paint kept in stock at the dealer, or even the paint suppliers. 99.999% of the paint out there is mixed on demand. They have a base material and about 100 different toners. DuPont, BASF, PPG, etc, all have their own formula to make the color on your truck. The formula tells the mixer how much of the base to use (according to weight, and their scales are extremely accurate and calibrated often.) Then it tells how much toner, metal flake, etc to add.

Keep in mind two things.

1. This paint that you get will be mixed according to the formula and doesn't account for the change in color that takes place over time as a result of fading, age, etc.

2. The color on your truck is the same as mine. This color was hugely popular in the early-mid 90s. It would not be uncommon to have a few variants for that color code. A variant is just that, a variation in the formula which produces a slightly different shade. It's usually not much of a difference, but can result in a mismatch of color.

The best way to deal with both issues is to take your truck to the place that mixes your paint. This will allow them to verify the code, check for variants, and most importantly, they can tweak the final product to get a match as close as possible to what is on your truck.

go to a body shop paint supply store and have them take a picture with a spectrophotometer this unit works very good on non metalic paint

just to much reading on that last post. Just check out your local body shops man and get them to color match your truck and buy the paint off them.

+1

I used to work in a body shop and they would make colors to match on site.
