Gmt900 Headlight Switches Interchangeable?

Does anyone know if the headlight switch from a gmt900 tahoe/suburban etc will swap with my 2010 silverado? I had to get a power seat for my wife instead of fogs, so now I'm trying to wire up some sort of aftermarket solution for winter using left over parts in the garage. I can get a headlight switch with fog button (oem) for free. Plan is to run a power wire for the fogs to the fuse box where the GM fog light kit hooks in. That way I'm not cutting any oem wires or rubber gromets in the firewall. Got to figure out what type of connector is used for the fuse box though.

I took a headlight switch out of a Yukon, and the 4x4 switch is seperate from the Headlight switch, so I'm hoping its interchangeable. Just want to make sure. Tahoes are much easier for me to get a free switch for, but if they aren't interchangeable than I can source a silverado one. Just will take longer.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

just buy the kit to add fog lights from GM, it comes with the switch, wires and light assembly

That is the ultimate plan, but GM does not sell it in Sheer Silver Mettalic(GGZ) yet, nor can the dealer find a paint to match part number. Besides, I don't have the money for it laying around right now, but I am taking a trip up deep in the mountains in sept.

So, this is just kind of a free temperary solution with parts laying around my garage, save the little connector for the fuse box. Tomorrow is my best oppurtunity to pick up the free switch, so if anyone knows if they are interchangeable or not, that info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The dealer can't find a paint match? You must be dealing with complete morons. I am sure that nobody has wrecked a 2010 in your color before.....Try the local PPG store.

I think that the switches are interchangeable. Take yours to the place you are getting one from and compare.

No, GGZ is the RPO code for that paint color (I believe). The paint code is 84C. I think that's the right code, could be wrong though. Regardless, dealer is saying they don't sell that kit in that color yet, nor does GMpartsDirect have that color kit listed. I am sure the dealer can paint match, for instance, a white color kit. What I meant was they couldn't find a part code to a paint to match kit. In other words, something E-coated, ready for paint, not painted yet. Just seems silly to buy a kit in the wrong color and pay to have it repainted, just because I bought my truck in a silver, rather than white/black/red/blue. Why GM wouldn't sell a ready-to-paint kit for colors not offered, I have no idea. Regardless, as I said before, I don't have the money laying around for the GM kit right now, and kind of need the fogs for the deep mountain trip (always fog in the late evening/early morning).

I would take the my switch with me, but it's not really that kind of deal. The place I would get it from tomorrow would probably (I have a few options) be a salvage yard I do appraisals at. I have one set for tomorrow, and the guys there told me grabbing a switch wouldn't be a problem. Issue is that I drop my truck off at the office and drive an hour there, hour back in a company car with no locks. Don't really want to lug my switch around with me and lose it/break it/have it be stolen and be SOL trying to drive home, as well as a 3 hour trip this weekend for my wife's reunion. Tahoe's/Suburbans/Avalanche are a lot more common there than the Silverado's/Sierra's are. The one I pulled out of the Yukon looked like everything externally would fit in the right spots in the bezel in the Silverado, I just want to make sure the clips that hold it into the cluster bezel are in the same locations for all GMT900 trucks. I could yank my switch out, but I was trying to avoid taking the risk of breaking a clip or something before I even know if this is possible. I was hoping someone here might be a tech or something and just happened to know they are the same from doing work on them, or a parts guy that knows they are the same part number. Plus it seems like removing the switch on a tahoe/yukon is much more simple than a Silverado. They have their switch on an independent bezel that just pops out by itself with a knife, rather than the silverado bezel that appears to be clipped under 3 different panels and has the DIC attached.

I apologize if this seems like a big waste of time to anyone, I was just wondering if anyone already knew if they were interchangeable or not to save me from breaking something by accident, and if this idea is even feasible or won't work at all.

EDIT: On a quick side note dlewis, how do you look those in-channel rain guards? Are they noisey/leak? I thought about grabbing a set of those from a dumpster at another place I work at (Some dealers and auctions just toss aftermarket stuff) but I was a little worried about long-term molding damage.

I like the in-channels. They are much cleaner looking. A dumpster set is probably not worth the effort because even though they are inchannel, they still use double sided tape to hold them into place. You would have to replace it and it's probably not worth the effort. I ordered mine from autozone because they were the cheapest price for the ones that i wanted.

Okay, taking your switch not an option......look at a silverado and a tahoe in the yard itself to compare then.

Ya, I hear ya. If I am going through all that, I would just take the silverado one, lol. It's all good, I'll figure it out I guess. The Tahoe's are MUCH simplier and easier to get out it seems, and I'm not really sure the Silverado one can come out without tools (other than a flat tip or knife). I don't keep my old Snap On box in the trunk of the work car :-D Plus, like I said, totaled Silverado's are pretty rare compared to the SUV GMT900s. If I can't find a Silverado, I'll just take a shot in the dark I guess. I was just kind of hoping someone would know. Oh well. Any advice on how to take the switch out of a silverado without damaging either truck? Any advice on the wiring idea (is it even possible to wire them that way, or no?)? Last question, I promise. I seem to remember bookmarking a thread where you mentioned doing the fog light kit. You wouldn't happen to know or remember what type of connector the kit uses to plug into the fuse box, and where I would be able to pick one of those up without cutting another truck apart?

Sorry for all the hassle guys, and I do appreciate the responses.

EDIT: Rare around here, or in the area's I frequent anyway. Not necessarily in general.

Finally got to another location and have time to type this. All the gmt900 switches I checked were interchangeable, despite the way it was mouunted (indivisual small panel next to 4x4 switch, or on the big panel like a bench silverado). I even hooked them all up to check. I was able to check an avalanche, suburban, yukon xl, and silverado. Just for future reference.
