6.0 Headers

Looking at headers for a 2000 Suburban 2500 4x4 6.0. I like the long tube Dynatechs, but it would be nice to have some that bolt up with out having to buy new mid pipes-that is unless the power trade off is big. What about the Banks headers? They appear to bolt up.

Advice? I'm mainly interested in low to mid range power and not top end high rpm power, because this vehicle is used for towing.

Of course I'm looking at a Blackbear tune afterwards!

I have the same questions! 2001 Sub. 2500 2wd, 6.0l; I'm trying to grab a little more power and better mileage. Looks like the best bang for the buck is in exhaust and tune. Have you found the same?

I have a stock exhaust with a magnaflow muffler only and for now a stock ecu. I have a tbichips ecu but it's not in right now. I was having transmission issues and removed it and went back to the stock ecu for the new transmission. I will be going to a blackbear ecu soon and I'll see how that does and then maybe headers later. I just like to know all I can before I get into it.

All the research I have done says go with long tubes. Everyone on all the forums swear that is the way to go. Seems the consensus says that shorty headers is wasting money. Save up for the Dynatechs or American racing with the mid pipes.

I might add, the few I have talked to that are running shorty's did say that the tone of the exhaust did change. One person had a highly modded truck with a supercharger so he wasn't able to tell what difference his shorties made. Others have claimed it helped the low end but not the top end.

If you are going to put headers in, definitely go with LTs, as shorties aren't much different from the stock manifolds. LTs do require some exhaust modification especially when keeping cats. We really like the AEM LTs, and the Dynatech LTs. If your area doesn't allow LTs, then Bassani midlengths.

Remember, when it comes to mods, you get what you pay for.

if someone were to go with the bassani midlengths, what would they have to do for the intermediate pipes?

Cut off the pipe just in front of the cat converter.

So cut off and weld up to the new headers? Or do they come with OEM style connections?

The instructions will show you how to get everything to fit up.

Do the instructions say welding required? If so it seems LT's with cats are the way to go for bolt ons. Or the bolt on shortys.

I would run LTs with cats, unless they are illegal in the State, in which case I would run the Bassanis. Shorty's are a waste of money for what you get out of them.

Why not run the LTs with Cats?

Bassani's website says cutting and welding required for proper fit.
